Or had she changed her mind about wanting to be together?

“It’s going to be okay—” he began.

The server reappeared, setting drinks in front of Brendan and Sonia and an enormous basket of fries in the center of the table. Ian tossed a handful in his mouth, then offered the basket around.

“So if he calls you ‘sunshine,’ what do you call him?” Ian reached across the fries to poke Sonia’s shoulder. “Do you ever look him in the eye?”

“Sure, I do.” Sonia sipped her drink with a bored expression. Brendan wondered if he was the only one who saw her wince when the alcohol hit her tongue. “I said ‘thank you’ very politely when he found me a donor.”

Brendan’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He slapped at it like a pesky fly, but it buzzed again. Probably another question about the bachelor party.

“Gotta get that,” he mumbled, pulling it out. A text from Hunter greeted him.

You SURE you don’t wanna hire strippers????????

“Hunter, for Christ’s sake.” Brendan made to turn off his phone, but Ian grabbed it.

“Lemme see.”

“The party’s a surprise.” Brendan tried to get his phone back, but Ian held it out of the way, swiping up the screen.

“Anything good on here? Let’s see B’s photos.”

“His phone’s squeaky clean,” Diana protested. “Trust me, Brendan doesn’t have anything interesting on there.”

Sonia coughed.

“Oh, hey. What’s this?” Ian tapped at the phone, and Sonia’s voice filled the booth, sounding soft and kittenish.

“I’ll just put it here. Is that all right?”

Brendan’s voice followed, rough-edged with arousal.“It’s fine, Ms. Jacobson. It’s perfect.”

“Is the door locked?”

“No.”

“Ian, what the fuck?” Brendan dove across the table, trying to wrestle the phone away.

“Holy shit!” Diana covered her mouth. “What is this?”

“Pause it,” Brendan ordered. “Now.”

Ian hooted with laughter. “It’s fine, Ms. Jacobson. It’s perfect,” he imitated.

“Give me the phone or I will end you,” Brendan gritted. Lunging across the table, he grabbed Ian’s shoulder and wrist, attempting to pry the phone out of his brother’s grip. Voices still rose from the phone, muffled by the tussle.

“Kneel under the table.”

“What if someone sees?”

“You’ll be very careful and quiet, and I’ll make sure no one sees.”

From the neighboring tables, heads turned to stare at the twins grappling.

Brendan wrested the phone from Ian’s hand, paused the video, and shoved it in his pocket. Sonia was shaking her head like he was the world’s biggest idiot.

“Youkeptit?” she mouthed.
