“It’s Hunter,” Marissa muttered.

“Are you kidding me?” Diana sat bolt upright on Sonia’s lap. “Wait, let me get a better look. Is this just a good angle, or is Hunter really that—”

“Give me that.” Marissa grabbed the phone from Diana. “Hey, he just sent a video too! It’s captioned ‘This went down a little while ago.’ It must be from the bachelor party.”

“Let’s see!” Di pawed at the phone. Holding it out, Marissa started the video.

It was pretty much what Sonia expected. Dark room, purple lighting, and a bunch of guys erupting in animal noises.

Rolling her eyes, she began to turn away from the idiocy. Then she saw who they were cheering for.

Brendan. Shirtless, his hair matted with sweat. Knocking back shot after shot as the crowd egged him on. When he finished, he staggered, his eyes cloudy. The video ended.

“Was that Ian or Brendan?” Marissa demanded. “Take the shirt off either one, anddamn.”

“It was Brendan,” Sonia whispered.

“Oh wow. The good twin is finally cutting loose.”

Sonia shoved a hand through her hair. “This is bad. This is very, very bad.”

“Sonia, it’s okay.” Twisting around, Diana squeezed her shoulder. “Brendan likes to party. He’s a big boy and he can handle himself. He’s just blowing off steam.”

Sonia shook her head. She’d seen the desperation in Brendan’s body. She knew how to read the way people moved.

The way they drank.

“I’m going to find him.” She stood up abruptly, Diana sliding off her lap.

“Sonia, he’s fine—” Di began.

“Look, I know this is your night.” Feeling guilty, Sonia softened her tone. “I want to be with you. But Brendan isn’t fine. I promise you, he’s not. I can’t let him be like that, so fucking alone in that big group, when every single person around him is going to say, ‘Yay Brendan! Brendan’s always great, he’s always okay, he doesn’t need anybody because he’s the one who takes care of us.’”

Diana’s eyes widened. She pressed her lips together.

“I’m sorry,” Sonia said quickly. “I didn’t mean—”

“No, you’re right. You need to be with him. Go.”

Marissa, who’d been watching in astonishment, stood up from the couch. “Did I just miss…a hell of a lot? You’re withBrendan?”

There was too much in that question. Sonia couldn’t deal with it right now. She couldn’t put her feelings for Brendan into a nice, neat box and give them a label.

Di squeezed Sonia’s hand. “They’re at Amity Bar. It’s walking distance from here.”

“I’ll run.” Giving Di and Marissa a wave, Sonia raced out of the club.

Amity Bar looked calm enough when Sonia slowed in front of the arched doorway. Purple lights shone from the windows. But when she tried the door, it was locked.

Right. Brendan had mentioned that the venue had been rented out for the party.

Fumbling for her phone, she tried calling Ian, but he didn’t pick up. Brendan hadn’t responded to her calls, either. When she knocked, there was no answer.

Sonia bounced impatiently on her toes, trying to figure out how to get in. If she called Di and asked her to get Marissa to call Hunter…

Turning away, she dialed Di’s number, but it went to voicemail.
