“Maybe not. But we’ll make it work. We’re worth it.”

“You really believe in us.”

Hazel eyes held hers. “I do.”

Sonia looked around at the fluttering flags that surrounded the Washington Monument, the few passersby under the velvet night sky.

“I need to be able to trust you to be honest with me,” she said quietly. “Even if it hurts.”

Brendan nodded slowly. “Always. I don’t have any more secrets from you.”

“You and Diana— and Ian—”

Brendan blew out a breath. “What we did, what we had…I won’t deny that it matters. I used to tell myself it was fun and hot, and that was all. Obviously, it meant more than that. I talked to them tonight, and I was finally honest with them. About everything. We should all talk — if you want to. But I’ve never experienced anything like what I’ve had with you. We fit together, Sonia.”

“Yes,” she breathed, gazing up at him. “We do.”

“Do you want to be with me?”

Brendan looked so exposed. Not persuading, convincing, or seducing.

Pulling his head down, Sonia pressed her lips to his. “Is there really any question?”

A grin slowly spread across his face. Those dimples were going to be the end of her.

“Then tell me what you want tonight. All week, you lived out my fantasies. It’s time to make more of yours come true.”

Emotions flooded Sonia, too strong to name. “Keep me with you,” she whispered. “Don’t let me run away.”

“Like this?” Brendan took her hands, kissing her forehead. “Or like this?” His grip shifted to her wrists, tightening. “Or like this?” One hand moved to her throat while the other swiftly captured both wrists behind her back.

Sonia’s pulse sped up. “You’re way too good at this.”

“Which one, sunshine?” He rubbed his thumb gently over her throat, making her shiver.

“All three,” Sonia whispered, sinking into the green starbursts at the center of his eyes. “While you tie me up.”

Brendan’s eyebrows lifted. “Your wish is my command.”

11:35 p.m.

Sonia lay on her back in Brendan’s bed, naked and tingling with anticipation.

The past hour had been a blur. Taking the Metro back to her grandmother’s house to grab supplies, adding the bouquet of stargazer lilies to the lone flower in her room, riding the train again to Brendan’s apartment, sitting on his lap while they whispered and kissed.

“Remember when we saw each other on the Metro a year ago?” he murmured, nuzzling her neck. “And you glared at me, looking all fierce and hot?”

“I’m only thinking about right now,” Sonia said with a laugh. “Us here, together.”

Now, he leaned over her, his gorgeous body bare, tying her up.

There was a particular look of concentration that Brendan got sometimes, a look of total focus. It was one of the hottest things Sonia had ever seen, especially when it was directed at her.

The red nylon rope she’d brought rasped slickly around her wrists, tightening as Brendan lashed them to the headboard. Bringing the long ends of the rope down to her chest, he crossed them between her breasts, twisting the rope and knotting it above and below the soft mounds.
