“I might.”

“Oh, and all the bridesmaids are wearing purple,” Diana said in a rush. “You don’thaveto wear purple…I’m just putting it out there.”

Sonia got up and went to her closet. The cross-beams on top of the wooden chest had pressed into her thighs and ass, leaving faint red marks that she glanced at as she passed the mirror. Would that turn Brendan on? He’d clearly enjoyed spanking her. And he’d left a trail of hickeys on her skin both times they’d fucked…

She cleared her throat. “I’m looking in my closet. Zero purple here. Am I supposed to be a bridesmaid too?”

“You’re the maid of honor,” Diana said innocently. “Isn’t it obvious?”

“Diana.Jesus, no. I just said I’d show up. I haven’t done anything to help you with the wedding. I didn’t plan the bachelorette party, or any of the things the maid of honor is supposed to do.”

“Right. You’ve done nothing to help me, except be there whenever I needed you since the beginning of college. Whenever I freaked out over a paper or Ian or my social life or some stupid-ass decision, you were there. Always. Keeping me sane.”

“Okay, okay.” Sonia tried to wave off the recognition.

“Sonia, you’ve done so much.”

“But the maid of honor—”

“Is my best friend. Who is you. End of story. You don’t have to do a damn thing this weekend except be there with me and Ian.”

Sonia pressed her fingers to her temples. “Okay, I can do that. How about black?”

“Sure, for my funeral.”

“Gray? Red?”

“Red,” Di said decisively. “Dress sexy. I’ll hear about it afterwards from my mom, but I’ll be an old married lady and it won’t matter.”

Sonia laughed. “I miss you,” she said suddenly.

“Awww, I miss you too.” Diana sounded so pleased that Sonia wondered if she should say things like that more often. “This weekend’s going to be crazy, but I want to spend as much time together as we can.”

Off the phone, Sonia trailed her hand along the clothes in her closet until she came to a bright red dress. The scarlet fabric was the same hue as the lipstick that sat on her nightstand.

Lifting the hanger, she hung the dress over her closet door. When her phone buzzed with a new text, she jumped.

Very nice, sunshine. But no more pics. I had to delete that one because I need to keep my phone clean

With the nameBrendan fucking O’Brianat the top.

Sonia let out a snort of relief.

Of course you do,she texted back. Are you sure you don’t want more pretty pictures? You can delete them right away

His reply came quickly.WANTandSHOULD are two different things

Sonia was ready to retort, but three dots bounced at the bottom of the screen. More texts were appearing.

Be good for me and wait till we see each other

Tomorrow night. 9 pm. My place

The clench of her thighs told her she’d be there. She didn’t even know where his place was, and it didn’t matter.

It was past midnight now. Was Brendan working late? At home, in front of the TV? Or out and about, with people?

With other women?
