“Yeah, she always seems to drop your name in our conversations. When I called her on it, she said she likes hearing me insult you.”

Brendan grinned. “I bet she does. Open up, sunshine.”

Sonia opened her mouth with a long-suffering air. When Brendan fed her the fritter, his eyes locked on hers.

Though she’d taken his cock in her throat just half an hour ago, this felt even more intimate. More bare.

As if reading her mind, he murmured, “You liked kneeling under my desk, didn’t you?”

Sonia shivered when he stroked her lower lip. “That wasyourfantasy, Mr. President. Not mine.”

“But you played your part so well.” His hazel eyes narrowed as his thumb traced her jaw.

“Which turned you on more?” she asked quickly. “My mouth, or the fact that Pete could walk in at any second with his cup of coffee?”

“Depends. Which answer will get me an encore from you?”

“You seriously want to risk your ass again?”

“Maybe not.”

Sonia shook her head. “I’m going to destroy the video now, before I forget.”

Taking her phone from her purse, she held it up.

“Wait.” Brendan glanced around to make sure no one was watching. “You’re going to get rid of it, just like that?”

“What else should I do? It’s hot, sure. But it’s dangerous to you, and I don’t want the responsibility.” To Sonia’s surprise, Brendan actually looked a little hurt. “Believe me,” she said softly, “I’ll remember every minute. Do you — want a copy before I get rid of it?”

“You’d give me one?” Brendan studied her. “I know it only shows my face, but the video has your voice, your name…”

“I trust you.”

Brendan’s eyes flickered, his dimples winking in his cheeks. Sweating now, Sonia quickly tapped at her screen, holding it out for Brendan’s inspection. She sent the video to him, then deleted it from her phone.

Turning away from his gaze, she poured lemonade from a thermos and took a hasty sip. “How’d you get into politics, anyway?”

Brendan stretched out on the blanket, pillowing his head on his arms. “It wasn’t my first choice. When I was a kid, I wanted to play pro basketball, of course.”

“Of course.” Sonia’s lips twitched.

“By college, I planned on a business career. Ian and I both enrolled in the B-school. I talked him into it.” Brendan rubbed his forehead. “He would have been better off majoring in something like exercise science or sports performance. Things that played to his strengths, you know? What he really loves. But I promised him this route was perfect for us. We’d go into business together when we graduated. If he struggled, I’d pull the weight for us both. Then he got together with Diana, and everything changed.”

Sonia ran her fingers over the grass, watching Brendan’s face.

“Look, I love Di,” Brendan said quickly. “I love Ian. Nothing made me happier than seeing them happy together.”

“Really?”

“No,” he said in a husky voice. “You’re right, it wasn’t the happiest time of my life. My brother wasn’t mine anymore. And Di wasn’t ours to—” He broke off.

“Yours to what?” Sonia asked sharply.

Brendan looked raw. Vulnerable, all of a sudden. The silence stretched out.

“The three of us were close when we were kids. I guess I missed that.”

Of its own accord, Sonia’s finger brushed his hand where it lay on the grass.
