“Within the community, that piece of jewelry will keep you almost as safe as I will.”

“What does that mean?”

“It’s more binding than a wedding ring. It marks you as owned, and if you’re owned, especially by someone like me, other alpha types, doms if you want to use that word, will keep their distance. It should at least keep their hands off.”

Anna nodded, “Then, yes, if it’s okay, I’ll wear it.”

Nine stepped back, and Anna turned to face him. “I’d feel better too, but there’s certain expected behavior usually associated with it.”

Anna bit her lip, “What do I have to do?”

“Get to you knees, eyes to the floor, just in front of my shoes.”

Anna struggled in the dress and heels, so Nine held out a hand and helped her settle to the floor. She bowed her head.

“Back straight, hands on your thighs” Nine said.

Anna complied.

“How are you feeling?” Nine asked.

“Self-conscious,” Anna said.

“You look perfect,” Nine said. “Let everything else go. The only thing you have to focus on is what I ask of you. Can you do that?”

“I’ll try,” Anna answered.

Nine shifted in front of her, but she didn’t move. “Right now, Donatello is putting a lot of effort into looking like he’s not watching us like a soap opera. His assistants are taking turns peeking out from the storeroom curtain. I swear, one of them swooned.” Nine slid his fingers under Anna’s chin and caressed the soft skin there. “There are three other men in the shop now, and they’re circling like sharks, every single one of them thinking I’m the luckiest motherfucker in this city because I’ve got a woman like you kneeling at my feet.”

Nine tipped Anna’s face up so that her eyes focused on his, “That’swhat this collar means. No matter how much they want to, they won’t approach you.”

“Because they honor the agreement?”

“Because they know I’ll rip their spines out through their throats.”

“Oh.”

Nine helped Anna to her feet, “Now, did you try on anything else?”

She nodded, “A couple of things.”

“Did you like them?”

Anna glanced at the mirror and then back at Nine, “This was my favorite.”

“Not what I asked.”

“I liked them. One of them was a really pretty blue.”

Nine leaned in and kissed her cheek and then called over his shoulder in Donatello’s general direction, “We’ll take it all.”

“Nine,” Anna whispered, panicked at the quick math she did in her head.

Squeals and claps erupted from the assistants who hurried into the fitting room to gather all the items before Nine could change his mind.

Anna leaned closer, “This is going to cost a fortune.”

Nine grinned, “Look over my shoulder.”
