Evander had already imagined sliding a ring onto Callie’s finger while reciting his vows, but it sure as hell wasn’t difficult to envision doing the same to Elias.

“Tick tock, boss,” the man in mind chastised. “Our girl is going to be deadweight in about five minutes.”

Their dynamic would be interesting as it grew, he mused, carrying Callie to the door. While he loved being dominant, was secureasa Dominant, Elias possessed the power to eclipse it. They might strive for equality, even achieve it in some measure, but Evander acknowledged the subtle shift of overall leadership.

As long as their mutual respected remained, and Callie was tended to no matter what, he didn’t care who held the one percent advantage.

A soft sucking noise brought his gaze down to the woman propping her head on his shoulder.

Thumb between her lips, her mouth slack, she took slow pulls on the lucky digit, self-soothing as the sedative infiltrated her system.

She did indeed grow heavier, but his attention focused more on the gentle flutter of her eyelashes against her cheek than how his arm was supporting her ass.

“She’s nearly out,” he murmured to Eli.

“Perfect timing. Everything’s in order here; housekeeping has been asked to maintain light duties until we return next week.” With Callie’s laptop bag in hand, Eli opened the door into the hallway, letting Evander go first, then closed it behind them both. “We don’t have an itinerary as such for Phoenix. Atticus seemed thrilled at the prospect of having—and I quote—backup.”

“It’ll be good for Callie to be around another Little, particularly one so similar in age. She utilizes that side of herself for all the wrong reasons, hiding behind her instead of enjoying her.”

“Like a child is a defense against an adult male,” Eli muttered in disgust.

“For some, it would be. Men like us, we treasure innocence, go to any length to protect it.” Evander kissed her head as they walked toward the elevator. “Fuckwits like Daniel, however… it’s simply a weakness to be preyed upon, a weapon to be used against her.”

“I’ve got a weapon or two I’d like to use against him.” Eli lifted his fist. “Bet I could make him cry easily enough.”

Perhaps their identical sentiments were a sign of positive things to come—Evander was inclined to give Daniel a lesson he’d never fucking forget.

“There’s time,” he said. “Essentially, we run in the same circles; an encounter is inevitable.”

“Dibs,” Eli replied darkly, then amended it to, “First dibs. I might leave something for you to play with.”

Callie cuddled closer, sucking harder on her thumb.

Eli pressed the button for the elevator—orlift, as he sometimes called it. “We’re both new to this Daddy Dom lark. Are we meant to set rules for this visit?”

The doors opened with a small ping, and they stepped inside. Greeted with a classically elegant couple whose combined aged probably closed in on the one-fifty mark, Evander gave them a nod and pretended that carrying an adult woman on his hip like an overgrown toddler was normal.

It didn’t help matters that she was in her pink pajama shorts dotted with unicorns, and one of his shirts.

“We could just let her run wild, see what trouble she gets herself into when she’s off the leash.”

“I suppose that would give us an accurate assessment of what she’s capable of.”

A laugh bubbled in his throat. “Let her loose with Alicia, and they’ll unleash hell. It might be a rough few days.”

They exchanged a look that was part horrified, part excited.

The old lady beside them cleared her throat as she clutched her husband’s jacket sleeve. “Is the young woman all right?”

Eli tipped his head. “Yes, ma’am, she’s fine. Thank you for asking.”

She didn’t look convinced. “Do I need to inform the authorities?”

“Martha.”

She ignored her husband’s quiet reprimand. “They’re two very big men, Donald, and the girl is obviouslyonsomething. You hear terrible things about young women being lured into hotel rooms by strangers, drugged, and sold into human trafficking.”

Elias’s face became unreadable, the way it did when he struggled to contain his emotions. “Ma’am, your concern is appreciated, but I assure you we’re not traffickers, human or otherwise.”
