“Thank you, sir. Does your guest have a card?”

“Her application has been approved by Braun. She doesn’t have her card yet, no.”

“Hmm. No problem. Let me just…name please?”

“Callie Goldman.”

The woman bit her lip, typing on the keyboard. “Oh yes, I can see she’s approved. Would you happen to have some form of identification? Driver’s license, personal ID, anything at all.”

Oh dear, Callie thought gleefully. Her purse and all her official documents were back in the room. It seemed she’d be spending the night at home, getting some work done after all.

“I do.” From his wallet, Evander produced her driver’s license.

What the hell? Sneaky bastard.

“Perfect.” Tina took the card, studying it. Brown eyes locked onto Callie’s face. “I just need your thumbprint to add to the club records, and I’ll activate your card.”

Callie glanced up at her Dom, thoroughly unimpressed. Did he have the power to knock down every hurdle in his way, or did they just wilt and fall over when he smiled?

Like now, for instance.

He gave her a wink, and his lips quirked in a half-smile. “Tick-tock, sweetness.”

On the verge of sulking, she jammed her thumb onto the black box, feeling the heat of a sensor against her skin. She heard a soft beep and a green light flashed around her digit.

Pulling a tray out from beneath the desk, Tina flipped through an assortment of identical black, blank cards. Selecting one, she ran it over the small glass screen set in the wood like she had Evander’s.

“All done, thank you. Your print is now linked to the card for faster, easier access to the club.” Smiling, Tina gestured to the doors behind her. “The changing rooms are right here; men on the left, women on the right.”

Evander took the fresh card, sliding it back into his wallet along with his own, and Callie’s license. “Thanks, Tina.”

“You’re welcome, sir.”

Bending down on one knee, he looked up at Callie.

Holy shit, he wouldn’t, would he?

Visions of marriage proposals and watching herself faint like an idiot flashed through her mind. It was quiet enough for her to make a fool of herself out here, but there was still a witness if she hit the floor.

Slowly, he reached out…for her foot, not her hand.

Gently, he removed the shoe with the broken heel, setting it to one side. With mirror patience, he got rid of the other one too, scooping the pair up by their straps as he rose. But he didn’t straighten completely; no, he ducked his head so his cheek was to hers, his mouth near her ear. “Eli would kill me if I asked a certain question without him being here. There is no him or me now, Callie, it’sus. However, I’m very pleased with your reaction.”

A breath exploded free. “My r-reaction?”

“Hmm.” Grasping her elbow, he turned her around and led her toward the doors to the right of the desk. “It wasn’t refusal I saw in your eyes, babygirl.”

Callie tripped over her feet. Christ, she was clumsy, even without the help of the dreaded heels. “That kind of marriage is a sin, Evander. Not to mention illegal.”

“If you were worried about the morality side of our relationship, we wouldn’tbein a relationship. As for the other…there are ways and means around the law, pretty girl. Ways that hurt no one.”

Hell was going to hurt, she thought. When her debauchery and lies, all her wicked sins caught up with her on judgement day, there were going to be a lot of demons—all wearing her father’s smug face—dancing around a fire as they roasted her on a spit.

“Think good girl thoughts for the rest of the night,” Evander advised, opening the door. “We can talk about the sins of polyamorous marriage later…when your father isn’t dominating your mind.”

Her shoulders hunched. He always knew when Gregory’s voice took charge.

“It’s going to be a fun, enjoyable evening, Callie. No asshole fathers making snide comments, no worries about being dirty. Here, we can be who we are. I want to show you Avalon because this is what I’d like Serenity to be.” He ushered her through the door. “Home.”
