There I go, already pushing away the blame, but what else should I do? God, too many questions.

“Emma?”

There’s another one. I nod, take the croissant, cut it, and stare at it.

I’m thinking about when I realized somebody was standing over the bed. Then the moment he touched me, my body responded so fiercely, like nothing I’ve ever felt.

There were times when I was fighting the crush that I touched myself and thought about him. Last night was so much more intense. My pussy is still tickling and teasing just thinking about it, so I try to move my thoughts someplace else. That’s the thing, though. There’s nowhere else except for the woman sitting across from me.

Sure, Rosa lied, but she did it to protect her family and protectLeo. I can forgive her for that, but she won’t ever be able to forgive me for last night or for wanting more right now.

Angelica glared at me this morning when Rosa knocked on the door to let me out of the basement prison. Angelica’s dead eyes stared, accusing. What did you do with my husband? The candles were lit, as usual. I wonder if Leo gets up early, especially for them.

“Good?” Rosa asks.

“Excellent,” I reply, way too passionately. “The best croissant I’ve ever had.”

Rosa tilts her head at me. Her hand is on the jug of juice. “No, I meant… are you good? Okay for juice?”

I glance at my full glass and nod.

“You haven’t had a bite of the croissant yet,” she points out.

“No, yeah, I know. I know that.”

“Right, but it’s still the best one you’ve ever had?”

“Nowit is.”

I stuff half the thing into my mouth, glad to be able to focus on chewing.

“I guess my head is frazzled,” I say after swallowing.

She frowns and nods. “That’s understandable. I get it. I’m sorry.”

“What?No. I’m sorry.”

“For what? What did you do?”

Oh, you know, just let your dad spank me, then make me come, then comeonme.

“I was harsh on you last night about keeping the mob stuff secret. I get why you did it. I would’ve done the same for Mom.”

“Thanks for saying that. Really.”

We don’t talk for a while, munching on our breakfasts. Then Rosa looks up at the door behind me. Her face hasalwayslit up like that when she sees her dad. I remember being jealous when I was younger because my dad passed away before I was born in a tragic accident. I never knew him, so I never felt that intense, instant affection that took hold of Rosa. It’s her dad.

“I may not be home until late. I might not see you again today.”

For a second, I think he’s speaking to me. I keep my gaze forward, every inch of my body suddenly tingling, ready, sore.

Just a dream…That’s all it was, like after Mom.

Another dream. Jeez, what if itwas? No, no, no.

“I wanted to say I love you, Rosa.”

“I love you too, Dad.”
