“Thanks, man. Me too.” It’s times like this that I live for. When all the blood, sweat, and tears finally come to fruition.

“I better go work on this AC clutch. It’s being a real bitch.”

“Since I’m done with this, I’ll come help you.” I kill the engine.

A couple hours later, I’ve finished helping Jay, and I take a seat in my office. I scan my calendar for the week and make sure I have all the parts I need. My phone vibrates on my desk. When I glance down, Olivia’s name pops up on the screen.

“Hey, duchess.”

“Hey, yourself. What are you doing right now?”

Hearing her voice sends all the blood rushing south. I adjust myself in my work pants. “Thinking of you.”

“You’re so full of it.”

“No lie. You can come to the shop right now and I’ll show you.”

She laughs. The sound is sweet and innocent. But I know she is far from innocent, though there are a few things I’m sure I could still teach her.

“How about you come over tonight? I’ll get some takeout. And then I can show you what was delivered today. Spoiler alert. There’s lots of sheer fabric and lace.”

I adjust myself again. “Mmm. I can picture it now. Right before I rip it off your body.”

“Maybe this time you can admire it a little longer than five minutes before it becomes scrap fabric. Expensive scrap fabric.”

“Don’t buy it and then I won’t have to tear it off your sexy as hell body.”

“Sadly, that’s the fun part.”

Bang. Bang. Bang.

“Hey Ledger! You should come out here. We got a problem,” Jay yells from the other side of my closed office door.

I roll my eyes and cover the phone. “You’re a big boy! Figure it out!”

A second passes without a reply and I think he may have solved his own problem. “No. This is a problem only you can fix.”

“Son of a bitch,” I mutter under my breath. “Give me a minute!”

“Hey duchess. I gotta go. Apparently, I only hire incompetent mechanics.”

“No problem. I’ll see you tonight?”

“Fuck yeah. And you better be wearing that sheer fabric thing when you answer the door.”

She laughs again. “I’ll see what I can do.”

I press end and set my phone down on my desk. I exhale a huff and scrub my hands down my face. Pushing away from my desk, I exit the office. My feet carry me down the hallway until I reach the open part of the garage. Two of my part-time mechanics stand off to the left. One is leaning against the tool bench running a rag over a car part while another one stands next to him. My eyebrows knit together as both stare me down, a small smirk on both their faces.

I revert my gaze to the right where Jay is standing. “Now what the fuck couldn’t you handle by yourself?”

Jay steps out of the way.

An all too familiar face, with long raven hair, steps out from behind one of the parked cars in the garage. “Hi Ledge.”
