Seeing my sister like this breaks my heart. I never want to see her in pain and hurting. But then the wheels begin turning in my mind and my eyes light up.

“This is perfect!”

She flinches. “My life falling apart is…perfect?”

“Well, no, but also, it kinda is. Hear me out.” I scoot to the edge of my chair.

“Yes, please explain this to me? Because right now, you’re not making it sound very appealing.”

“I’m sorry about Adam. He’s a dumbass. You deserve someone who will cherish you and make you his top priority.” I clasp her hands in mine. “But as for the job… Come work with me.”

She lifts her head. Finally, a spark of interest fills her eyes. “As an event coordinator?”

“Yes! I have a big holiday event coming up for Christmas. Plus, I know how much you love Christmas. You always coordinate the Christmas decoration contest in your neighborhood. What do you say?”

Her bright red lips press together as she ponders my proposal. My toes bounce in my heels under the table as I anxiously wait for her answer. Working side by side with my sister would be amazing. More than amazing. It would be the best thing ever.

She turns to me, a wide grin spreads across her face and she nods. “Yes! Let’s do it!”

I squeal in delight, wrapping Tatum in my arms. “This is going to be so fantastic! Let’s go tell the guys.”

Simultaneously, we rise to our feet, our faces breaking out into ear-to-ear grins. We make idle conversation as we glide across the polished marble floor of the ballroom. Suddenly, Tatum stops dead in her tracks. When I realize I’m talking to myself, I whirl around. She stares intently in front of her, her gaze never wavering. I follow the path and that’s when I spot Adam embracing another girl tightly in his arms. It’s not a sisterly embrace either. If I had to guess, he’s imagining what she’s wearing underneath her dress. I swiftly turn around to meet Tatum's gaze. Her face is a blank canvas, void of any emotion.

“That’s his intern.”
