“He’s Italian-American, originally from Brooklyn. I did some digging and, in addition to the Welsh pirate, he’s also obsessed with the mafia. Atkins is bold, cold-blooded and brutally successful when it comes to violent activities.”

Fucking great,I think.A psycho with delusions of grandeur.

“So what’s the plan?” Sailor asks.

Dash looks from Sailor to me. “I want to be clear that our part in this situation is done. We were hired to play bodyguard for DeLazzer and we finished the job. There’s no need for any of you to go chasing after the Brigade in Spain.”

He can say that all he wants, but there’s a reason Dash brought us in here and is sharing this information. Otherwise, he would have just sent it all in email. I wait an extra few seconds to see if anyone else takes the bait before offering, “But you know we’re gonna go get DeLazzer.”

Dash inclines his head and closes his laptop. “Then it’s an off-the-books op.”

Bingo.

“Just like old times,” Fallon comments and rubs her hands together.

“We’ll go in, rescue DeLazzer and destroy the virus,” I say.

“Easy-breezy,” Sailor adds, sending a saucy grin my way. Then she turns to our tech wizard. “Ryan, if you had to guess, what do you think they’re planning?”

He shrugs his broad shoulders, then takes his glasses off. “This is only conjecture on my part, but if I were a terrorist with a deadly virus at my disposal, I’d figure out how to make it airborne and release it with a dirty bomb. And definitely blow it in a public, high traffic area where I could infect as many people as possible at once.”

Sailor looks at me, eyes sparkling with that look she gets when she’s ready to start some fun trouble, and I feel her hand slide up my thigh beneath the table. “You up for a trip to Spain?”

“Hell yeah,” I say, covering her hand with mine and squeezing it.

“I’ll have Finn get the jet ready,” Dash says.

I offer him a questioning look. “I thought this was off the books.”

“It is, but I think you two need to keep a low profile. Maybe even go in undercover.”

“Oh, man, this is some CIA shit,” Colt says, leaning back in his chair. “If you former military grunts need any pointers, let me and Eden know.”

“You should go in as brother and sister,” Eden suggests. “That way if you need to get friendly with Atkins, it’ll be easy.”

“No one is getting friendly with Atkins,” I growl. “And we look nothing alike.”

“Step siblings?” Ryan suggests and they all chuckle. “Worked for Schwarzenegger and DeVito.”

Fallon playfully slaps his arm. “No, they were twins! You’re thinking of Step Brothers!”

“With Will Ferrell,” Eden adds.

“You guys watch too many movies,” Colt exclaims, and everyone laughs.

“Laugh it up, fuzzball,” Dash says.

All eyes turn to Dash. Fallon and Sailor roll with laughter and I feel like I’m missing an inside joke.

“Don’t worry. We’ll come up with the perfect cover for you,” Eden promises, bringing everyone back to focus.

“Better go get packed,” Dash says, glancing down at his phone. “Finn says he can have the jet fueled and ready to go within the hour.”

“Those Night Stalkers are damn fast,” I comment.

“They are,” Fallon says. “In and out before you even see them.”

Dash stands up. “Okay, Maddox and Sailor will be going in undercover to Seville. Eden and Colt will send your cover information over within the next 30 minutes. Fallon, I need you to find out everything you can about the Black Widow virus and, Ryan, we need to know Atkins’s exact location. And you’re on comms later so make sure the equipment is set and ready to go.”
