“What about Episodes 5 and 6?”

I frown. “What do you mean?”

“Empire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi.” He speaks slowly like he’s explaining something to a toddler and I cross my arms.

“I told you, I don’t like sci-fi and if I didn’t see the first one, why would I skip ahead to watch the fifth and sixth one? That makes no sense.”

He shakes his head. “They’re the second and third movies.”

“Now I’m just confused,” I say with a slight huff, and a chest-deep laugh bursts from Dash’s throat. “What’s so funny?”

“Not many people take me by surprise,” he murmurs.

God, that voice. It’s making my body get all warm and an electric shiver zings through me, striking my core like a bolt of lightning. Dash Slater is a dangerous man in more ways than one.And probably unavailable,a little voice warns me.

“I’m actually pretty boring,” I counter.

“No, you’re not,” he says, that velvety voice dropping a notch. “You’re fiery and fascinating.”

If I thought my blush was noticeable before, now my face is flaming red. Chewing on my lower lip, I try to brush his compliment off. “Not really. I’m just a plain old preschool teacher.”

“Lake,” he says firmly, and I look over into his deep, blue eyes. “There’s nothing plain about you.”

His compliment makes me feel really good and I can’t help the smile that tilts my mouth. Other than my wild red hair, I’ve always considered myself to be fairly unremarkable. So how I’ve managed to snag this gorgeous man’s attention, at least to some degree, is beyond me. But it sends a little thrill through me. Settling back in my seat, my mood is practically giddy.

The total flight time to Zurich is 12 hours and, since I didn’t sleep much last night, exhaustion hits me hard and all at once. For the first time in my life, I’m about to lean my seat back, but the moment my eyes slip shut, I’m out like a light. I’ve never been able to sleep before while on an airplane because I’m always on edge to a certain degree.

Apparently, Dash has a calming effect on me, much like the soft jazz filling my ears.

At some point during the long flight, the sat phone rings and I jump awake, startled. I have no idea how long I’ve been sleeping and I sit up straighter, amazed that I’d slept so soundly. I swipe a hand over my mouth and hope to God I wasn’t drooling. Or, worse, snoring.

Dash answers the call and it’s Ryan Mercer, Slater Security’s tech guru and Fallon’s man. When his image pops up on the small screen on the wall across from Dash, I blink in surprise. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but Ryan is like a Golden Retriever puppy and Henry Cavill rolled into one. Not many guys can pull off adorable and sexy at the same time, but he can. Wearing glasses over intelligent, espresso-colored eyes and sporting a head of brown hair that is perfectly-mussed on top, he’s rather dreamy. There’s also no mistaking the way his t-shirt pulls across his broad, muscled chest.

Dash introduces us and then they get down to business. I listen closely as they discuss Tantium Force, the men who might be after it and finally Maurice Ward’s daughter. Ryan rattles off an address and Dash makes a note in his phone.

“I’ll make some inquiries on the Dark Web,” Ryan finishes. “Find out what groups are after the substance. It could be anyone.”

“Call me as soon as you find something out.”

“Will do,” Ryan says and they disconnect.

Yawning behind my hand, I realize Dash is watching me. He stands up and motions for me to do the same.

“C’mon,” he says. “I should’ve given you the tour earlier.”

“There’s more?” I ask.

“So much more,” he says and gives me a devastating smile.

My heart trips as I follow him toward the rear of the plane. It’s bigger than I originally thought and he points out the bathroom, a stocked refrigerator and a bedroom. My eyebrows shoot up.

“There’s a bedroom?” I ask, completely amazed. There must be good money in the private security business,I think, remembering his fancy car.

“It’s not huge, but it’s comfortable. Go ahead and lie down,” he offers and nods to the full bed.

“Are you sure? What about you?”

“I’m not tired. Besides, my seat reclines.”
