“She finally caved to my charms and is up here taking advantage of me.”

Ivy’s mouth drops. “Hardly.”

Suppressing a smirk, I look over at Eden and Colt and get into business mode. “I’ll let her explain the situation, but she may have witnessed a murder and now she’s got some killers looking for her.”

“Oh, shit,” Eden murmurs, her chestnut eyes turning intense. “C’mon back here and fill us in, okay?”

Ivy looks over at me and I nod. “Go ahead. I have to take a walk around the plane and finish my check before we take off.”

“Kick the tires and light the fires?” Her kaleidoscope eyes lock with mine and twinkle.

“Exactly.”

“Thank you, Finn. For keeping me alive.”

My chest tightens, but I ignore it and give her a jaunty grin. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

I watch Ivy get up and follow Eden and Colt into the cabin. As they sit down and buckle up, I head back outside and do my final walk around the plane.

Everything looks good. Pretty soon we’ll be in the air and returning to San Diego.

But this time I’m bringing a little East Coast sweetness back with me. The woman I haven’t been able to stop thinking about for months. Who’s been invading my thoughts and haunting my dreams.

It’s going to be hella interesting.

Chapter Four: Ivy

Nervously chewing on my lower lip, I watch as Eden flips back through the pictures I took on my camera. Colt props an arm on her seat and leans forward, looking over her shoulder.

“This isn’t good,” she murmurs.

“You caught the whole damn thing,” Colt adds and frowns. “No wonder they came after you.”

The plane took off a few minutes ago and we’re currently cruising through the dark nighttime sky, heading west.

“It’s all pretty shadowed because the sun was setting,” I comment.

“We can clear it up. Then Ryan can run them through facial recognition software and see if we get a match.” Eden hands my camera back. “Don’t worry, Ivy. We’ll help you.”

“Thanks,” I murmur, beyond grateful for their kindness.

“You’re lucky you ran into Finn.” Colt studies me with intense green eyes flecked with gold. “That was quite a coincidence.”

“Like you said, I was lucky.” I’m aware Colt and Eden are both former CIA, and I notice the look they exchange.Do they think I was already with Finn?I know people probably noticed us hanging out at Rex’s and then slipping away together. Then, of course, there was our fight at Dash and Lake’s wedding reception. Deciding to nip this in the bud, I say, “Nothing is going on between me and Finn. I’m just grateful he was in the right place at the right time.”

I’m not sure if they believe me, but what can I do?

“And why is that?” Eden asks coyly.

“Why is what?” My eyes dart over to the closed cockpit door. Thank God Finn can’t hear wherever this conversation is heading. My cheeks are already warming up and I don’t know why I feel so guilty all of a sudden.

“Why is nothing going on between you and our pilot extraordinaire?” she clarifies, lips twitching.

Talk about forthright. If I recall correctly, Eden’s nickname is Loco, and I’m not at all surprised. I swallow the rising lump in my throat and glance over at Colt, hoping he’ll tell his wife to stop asking personal questions, but he just lifts a dark brow, waiting for my answer.

“I’m sure I’m not the only one who can see that Eric Finn has heartbreaker written all over him.”

“Hmm. Well, I think Mr. Finn is due to fall. And from the way he can’t stop looking at you, maybe you’re the one with the power to change his wandering ways.”
