She flinched. “I’m not going. If you want to waste your time picking me a dress, do it. I’m leaving now. You can stay at the shop if you want.

Ok. I don’t want to hear how you don’t like your dress or that I rushed you.”

Slam.

Mila slammed the door shut behind her.

The people she should give her attitude to, she was meek as a mouse. All her aggression and frustration were unleashed on me.

Great. I’m a bargaining chip for my father, and my sister’s punching bag.

I rushed out of the dressing room. I watched Mila storm outside. Instead of most of the men leaving with Boris only a few got in the car. It didn’t matter, this shop had a back door and I had Valentina’s codes.

Slipping back inside the dressing room, I picked out the dresses I wanted to keep.

* * *

Islipped out of the backdoor. Valentina wasn’t happy but there was nothing she could do. My lips curved as I spotted Vadim’s Mercedes parked in the alley near the dumpster.

He stepped out from the shadows. “Are you sure about this?”

Grabbing my purse, he opened the car door.

“It will be just us.”

“I’m sure Samira would rather kill you then allow you to put her life in jeopardy.”

I shrugged. “I’m not trying to be her bestie. She wants to get a feel for me before she makes that kind of move. Trust me, I’m not going to give her the opportunity to kill me. If we stick to the plan, nothing will go wrong.”

Vadim had assumed he was accompanying me to this meeting but he was wrong. The only thing I needed him to do was drive me there and do exactly what I told him to do. I loved him to death but he wasn’t a made man. He’d never killed anyone. His hands weren’t tainted with blood.

He turned the corner and got into the left lane. “You haven’t told me the plan. I’ve asked several times, but you’ve dodged the question.”

We were traveling down the highway with the flow of traffic and some of the tightness in my chest eased. I kept looking in the rearview mirror making sure none of my father’s men were following us.

“I’m going to go inside the warehouse and meet Samira. I anticipated her picking a place with a large space, so I had preliminary cameras setup in the locations, I thought she would choose.”

He frowned. “Where are we meeting her?”

I chose to ignore his emphasis on us. “I’m meeting her in an old, abandoned warehouse. You will stay in the car. I’ll give you access to the cameras, so that you can see what’s happening inside. I’m going to get the evidence on Arkan. This should only take thirty minutes at best. Honk the horn in exactly thirty minutes. I’ll tell her that it’s my father’s men and cut the meeting short.”

His hand gripped the steering wheel. “No, you’re going in there alone outnumbered and out gunned. If it’s a trap, anything can happen. You’re putting all your faith in the cameras, but what if they’ve been tampered with?”

Despite thinking that I only focused on revenge, the thought had crossed my mind. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough to make me abandon the plan. It had to be done now or never. Samira Pasalic was damn near impossible to find or contact. Arkan kept such a tight rein on her, if this went sideways, I would never get the evidence from her. The only reason she was meeting me was because she thought I brought the evidence Qemal had on her.

Vadim parked a block away from the warehouse.

He ran his hands through his hair. “I don’t like this plan. You knew I would not have brought you had I known your plan was to walk in there alone.”

I unstrapped the extra Glock I had on me. “Here. It’s a Glock, so there isn’t a safety. Don’t hesitate to use it if you need to. These people won’t hesitate to kill you. Shoot first and ask questions later.”

After handing him the weapon, I leaned over and kissed him. I slung my backpack over my shoulder and unlocked the car door.

“I love you. Stay in the car. No matter what you hear or see on the camera, stay here. I’ll come to you.”

His eyes narrowed. “I love you too. Take the gun. I have the car.”

“I have more guns on me. You might need it. I don’t want you to be caught off guard. The cameras are all inside so watch your surroundings.”
