There were four black sedans with tinted windows in the other lanes. The hair on my nape started to itch, and my instincts had never been wrong. I was surrounded by my enemies. If they captured me, I was a dead. I had no choice but to get to my secret safety deposit box at the credit union. I couldn’t leave the United States without my passport, weapons, and money. I sped up and switched lanes. My pursuers were driving luxury cars with turbo engines.

This was a tough situation where the options were horrible. The credit union was small and only had one point of entry and exit. If I made it there alive, I would be forced to shoot my way out. I took a sharp right turn off the highway and sped down the road. At the first side street, I turned and entered the parking lot of a hotel. I swung into a parking space leaving the engine running. After twenty minutes, I reversed and took the back way to the bank. I saw a motorcycle behind me and I frowned. I was certain it was the same motorcyclist I saw earlier.

Who is he?

If I got to my weapons, I wouldn’t have any problem killing him. Mila and I would be safe after I took care of Arkan, and the government arrested dad. Boris would be alive but he would be forced to keep the Aslanov family together while dad was locked up. That would give Mila and I enough time to disappear and align ourselves with a more powerful man who could protect us. Fifteen minutes later, I drove into the bank parking lot, parked, and ran inside. I had managed to get in front of the motorcycle guy, but only because a truck turned in front of him. He would be here in a few minutes. I had to be armed and ready to defend my life.

The place was packed.

I ran to my locker, opened my safe deposit box, and retrieved everything I needed including my loaded Glocks. Instead of heading back out of the front door, I ran out and hid behind the tower. I needed to be able to see the front door. Within minutes the doors chimed. I felt heavy footsteps heading inside. Peeking out, I saw him walk toward the room for the safety deposit boxes. He hadn’t removed his helmet so it was impossible to identify him. His identity and futile attempts to hide his face wouldn’t matter. As soon as I could, I would take the shot. There were so many cameras inside, it was impossible to kill him without getting the murder on film. He disappeared around the corner.

Concealing my gun, I jumped up and ran toward the front door. I skidded to a halt as I saw four Mercedes Benz circling the parking lot. It wouldn’t be long before they let most of their men out to enter the bank. There was no way I could get to the car without being killed. One sedan stopped, and Boris slid out. Like a dictator, he snapped his fingers. The men got out and rushed to one of the Mercedes Benz.

I can’t be found here. How did he know about my safety deposit box?

There was no way that I could have Boris and my father's men catch me here. I swiveled on my heels to run when strong arms closed around my waist. Before I could scream, I turned and came face to face with my captor. He was the man on the motorcycle.

“You pretended to be dead. If you don’t want to end up that way, you’ll let me go. My father’s men are here.”

Without words, he carried me to the back where there were personal lockers for members. Before I could say anything, he pushed me inside a locker that was open at the back and closed us inside. It was a tight fit, but we were hidden for now. My eyes narrowed at him as I took in his appearance and the absence of injuries. He hadn't trusted me. The phone had to be some kind of test or game. It didn’t matter because we were about to die.

If I’m found, my father would kill me himself. There was no way for me to prove my innocence. If I gave him the items from Qemal’s house, he would know that I had them all along. Now that the BIH was working with the FBI to prosecute him, he wouldn’t accept that I had nothing to do with it unless I had proof. Betrayal for him was unforgivable. He’d killed people for much less. I started to tremble as Boris stalked into the room.

“Men, keep your eyes open. The Serbians and Albanians are also here. That bastard kept telling Felix that he didn’t know where some of his people were, but there were over forty of them here. I’ll be sure to relay this to Felix. Now, let’s find Anya. If she’s here, it proves that she has betrayed us.”

“She’s a spoiled brat. Do you really think she’d be stupid enough to rat on her father? She knows that he has connections everywhere.”

“Jean, I don’t know. It’s not for me to judge her. Our job is to bring her in. Let’s do that. He isn’t really worried about her. It is up to him whether he believes her to still be loyal.”

Cian shielded my body like he heard them. I knew that he couldn’t, but was he reading their lips from this distance? Once again, I found myself impressed with his skills. I had underestimated him but I wouldn’t make that mistake again.

Why was he trying to protect me? Who is this man? What does he want from me?

Father’s men started searching. Boris was standing in the middle of the floor looking around. It wasn’t long before Maggie, the branch manager, was dragged in. The others hadn't come close to this locker but it was only a matter of time. I closed my eyes. A single tear rolled down my cheek and onto his hand. He cupped my face and pressed his forehead to mine. His salty ocean scent couldn’t calm me or transport me to a time I was frolicking in the water in Bora Bora. The strength of his arms around me felt right, although I knew it was wrong. We were enemies. Yet he kept doing things like this, which blurred the lines between right and wrong. I pulled away from his gentle touch. The only man who had the right to comfort me was Vadim. When this was over, he and I would be married and live the life we deserved, regardless of the cost. I was done sacrificing for the Aslanov family. I had lost too much: my virginity, self-esteem, self-respect, and confidence. If I weren’t careful, I would lose my life.

For the first time, I was faced with the possibility that I might not be able to get revenge on everyone involved in my sexual assault. Death wasn’t something I ever feared, but I refused to forfeit my life before my attacker’s received justice by my hand. I thought of Mila underneath Boris’s boot, and another tear slid down my cheek. He jerked my face towards him and wiped it away with his thumb. At this point, I was crumbling in the arms of my captor. I pulled away from him again. He was a damn good kisser, but there was no way I could have him kissing me, regardless of how good he smelled. He was the most attractive man I had ever met, but my heart belonged to Vadim.

I punched him in the gut again.

The bastard didn’t even make a sound. If I didn’t feel his body flinch, I wouldn’t have believed that the blow had landed. Some of the men were getting closer now. Maggie moved to the next ten large lockers and started to put in the override code. The doors opened and the men pushed her out of the way and began searching. A man approached Boris.

“We’ve got incoming. More of the Serbians and Albanians have arrived. Kashrin was outside and they shot him in the head. Are we going to shoot it out?”

Boris cursed. “Arkan may run things in Europe but not here. Let's have them lead us to Anya. It’s obvious that they know something that we don’t. Arkan is framing Anya. He is the one who gave the evidence to the BIH. Let’s fall back and follow them.”

The men rushed out of the room.

How did they know about my security box? They obviously hadn’t noticed that I had removed the most important things from it.

Mila didn't even know about the security deposit box.

If father’s men leave and the Albanians leave too, I might be able to get out of here alive. Boris was normally trigger happy and lived to kill but for some reason he was surprisingly restrained. When everyone had gone, I elbowed Cian to open the door, but he shook his head.

What is up with him not talking? He spoke fine but he rarely uttered a word.

If I live past tonight, I will learn everything there is to know about Cian. I didn’t know much about the Irish mafia. Whatever his plan was for me, I had to change his mind. I couldn’t allow him to give me to the Irish Mafia to be used as a pawn against my dad. Dad viewed the Irish as weak. He would never believe that they captured me.

I opened my mouth. He turned and put his finger to my lips. My eyes widened as a group of Albanians rushed into the room. There was one man, who was the leader but his face was covered with a bandana.
