Adan had to know what his son had planned before or after the fact. Either way, he was guilty because he hadn’t delivered his son’s head to my house.

How convenient that dad cleared Adan which meant he planned to do business with him too.

I’m going to kill him.

“I'm going to make the arrangements now.”

“No, I’ll take care of him myself.”

He shifted and rubbed the back of his neck. “You might not be healed from your recent temper tantrum, or from the surgery to kill the bastard growing within you. Your womb is for your husband and the surgeon assured me that your fertility wasn’t impacted from the abortion.”

My lips thinned. “I'll be healed.”

He stood up. “If you are you'll get your wish. I need to pick up Mila. She doesn’t know anything about this. I can’t have her thinking of slitting her wrist when things don’t go her way.”

Turning from him, I closed my eyes. He closed the door behind him and his booming voice was clear. He threatened death on the men guarding me if they allowed me to be harmed in any way. It was comical the way he acted as if he cared, which was far from the truth. He had allowed others to hurt me.

I must heal. I will get the revenge I seek.

My ears twitched when I heard something at the window. Without thinking I gently pulled out the IV from my arm and wrapped the needle in the palm of my hand. Whoever was creeping in my window wasn’t a professional hitman or in the mob. It didn’t matter, they would die from trespassing tonight. There were many who would love to see me humbled, broken and teary-eyed, but it would be their fatal mistake.

Canister end tables and glass beakers crashed to the floor. The window was yanked closed. It was difficult for me to feign sleep as curiosity flooded through me. The person in my room was an idiot. My guards had moved away from the door, most likely to smoke, but they would be back soon. My intruder’s footsteps came closer to the bed and sat down. The bed dipped underneath his weight.

I held my breath sensing the male’s position on my bed.

“Anya, how could you hurt yourself like this? They said that you tried to kill yourself. You were so happy when you left. I refuse to believe that you hurt yourself. I beat the shit out of Daniel, so that he won’t be spreading anymore rumors,” said Vadim.

Every muscle in my body tightened.

That damn Daniel. What does Mila see in him anyway?

“Whatever happened we can get through it together.”

The pain in his voice was creating tiny fissures in my soul. My throat ached from silently crying and I attempted to keep the tears from spilling down my cheeks. Gasping, a strangled cry tore from my throat as I turned away. I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.

Shaking my head, I tried to toss the covers over me. “Can you get past the bastard in my stomach because I can't? I'm tainted... damaged goods.”

Heavy footsteps headed toward the door and without pause I tossed him over the bed. The door burst open and our men came inside.

“I thought I heard something.”

I rolled my eyes. “I opened my window. Can't you see that I'm crying? Get the hell out.” I grabbed a pillow and threw it at them.

“I’m just trying to make sure you're okay,” he said.

The sympathy in their face was too much. I wasn’t the crying type yet this kind of pain was soul crushing. No matter how I tried to fix myself everything was different. I wasn’t the same carefree, happy, and intelligent girl that went to Bosnia. My temper was new, and they quickly walked out of my room, happy to leave me in my misery. Instead of standing outside the door, their shuffling gait could be heard moving down the hall. They didn’t want to hear my guttural screams; I suppose I couldn’t blame them.

Vadim sat on my bed with his back facing the door.

His face was completely red and now his eyes were swelling. “I love you now and forever. This is my fault. I should’ve told you how I felt. I'm your boyfriend but I never told you that I want to marry you.”

I stuffed my fist in my mouth. Doubling over I rocked myself as I wept. His words were like daggers in my soul.

He picked me up and cradled me in his arms. “Don’t cry. I can’t take seeing you so distraught.”

I put my finger to his lips. “I didn't cheat on you. This wasn't your fault. I was raped. My virginity was stolen from me by a spineless asshole who beat and drugged me.”

Vadim kissed my hand. “It doesn't matter. I still love you. No one can break you unless you allow them too. I won't leave you. Even in death we will be reunited.”
