Tran fired at me.

Bang.

Vesim ducked. His eyes widened as he took the gun in Tran’s hand. “Kill the Dragon. Kill those traitor bastards.”

It wasn’t long before the entire space was filled with gunfire exploding everywhere. Turning the corner, I entered the attic.

Mikhail ran down the stairs. “We must go now. There’s gunfire and our eyes and ears are already out.”

We ran to the hidden tunnel. After running for six miles, we slowed down.

Mikhail frowned. “I’m not sure what happened. Everything was quiet then bullets started flying everywhere.”

“Tran spotted me. He shot at me. I happened to be behind Vesim at the time.”

Mikhail gripped his gun. “I wondered where you were. I was about to go back to find you.”

We ran for several more miles than he stopped.

Mikhail bent down. “I can't go any further. I’ve got to pee. Don’t worry, I’ll be quick. Make sure that you watch your back.”

Looking around, I tried to see if anything had changed. The tunnel was dark and there were many places for a person to hide. Today wasn’t bad, but we had to get out of here. I wasn’t looking forward to dealing with the Vietnamese, but it had to be done. The back of my throat itched. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t alone. I moved closer to the tunnel wall trying to blend into the shadows. Out the corner of my eye, I saw Mikhail. He smiled and then froze as he noticed the position of my fingers. I’d signaled him to stay put.

The barrel of a gun was pressed hard against the back of my head.

“Are you guys going to shoot me?”

Mikhail stood in the shadows signing their responses.

He jerked me around to face him. “Le has been looking for you. We still need you to produce Mikhail and Viktor. You thought you were getting out of the implant, but I've got you now. You almost started a war, with the Albanians. Pham will be happy to see you.”

Tran pushed me forward walking toward the end of the tunnel. “You said that you loved your girlfriend, yet you ran.”

He had six men behind him with their guns trained on me. I almost smiled. The coward knew not to approach me by himself. Luck was on his side now, but it wouldn’t be for much longer.

I shrugged. “You weren't going to give me my girlfriend. I proved my allegiance and you wanted to put a bomb inside me. I' don’t trust you.”

Tran and his men laughed. “You'll get her back if you cooperate. If you don’t, we’ll detonate the bomb. You can die now or give us what we want.”

He was a horrible liar and I wanted to fuck him up.

I smirked. “You want Mikhail and Viktor bad. I hope you can deal with the consequences.”

“You should worry about yourself, not us,” Tran said. He elbowed the man near him and they all laughed. He pushed me further toward the entrance.

Soon, we exited the tunnel. There were twenty black cars with tented windows circling the area. Two of the men, ran forward and waved them down. A sharp pain shot through the back of my skull. I felt the blood run down the back of my neck.

Stumbling, I felt myself fall forward.

I’m going to kill Tran.

My mouth was dry and my limbs felt achy. I attempted to get up from the metal table, but my hands and legs were bound by leather bonds. There was a man hovering over me. He wore bifocals, had straight, white, hair, and a braided goatee. His expression was gleeful as he removed his tools from the plastic. After a few minutes, he had each tool laid out on a white towel.

Great. I woke up in time to be implanted with a bomb.

There was absolutely nothing I could do about it. Mikhail would’ve followed us. Our plan was for them to use me to meet them so that we could annihilate them. The only change was that they took me hostage. We didn’t have to orchestrate a fake meeting. I closed my eyes. Pham and Le were irritating and I knew they would be here soon to gloat.

Wham.
