When I was pressed up against his body, and he wrapped his arms around me, I flashed on the dream I’d had of him, fucking me, pumping in and out of me until I cried out his name in pure ecstasy.

I blushed, and the same heat washed over me.

Colter looked down at me, and his green eyes grew dark, like the forest.

“What?” I breathed.

“Nothing,” he said and touched his fingers to the ring on his other hand. I noticed that he twisted the ring this time—it had moving parts—and just like that, we were transported through a pit of nothingness, and I became lighter than air.

COLTER

Ididn’t want her to leave my penthouse, but she wasn’t going to let up. I had no idea what was so fucking special about a pendant—I could buy her a million pendants—but arguing with her was just going to make matters worse.

I had to show her that I was on her side. I wanted to give her what she wanted, show her that I meant well.

Why did I care so much about what she thought of me?

I had no idea.

I’d never cared about what women thought of me, but this was different. I needed to stop these thoughts. She was getting into my head.

When I held Liv against me, ready to take her to her apartment, a scent of pure arousal rose to my nostrils, and I breathed in deeply.

My cock punched up in my pants, and I looked down at Liv, surprised.

Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes bright, and her lips were parted. Whatever she’d thought right that minute had turned her on.

“What?” she asked, her voice breathy.

I wanted her to whisper in my ear with that voice. I wanted her to purr my name while I pinned her down and fucked her.

The same arousal that I sensed from her made my balls clench.

If this situation wasn’t so dire, I would carry her to my bed and have my way with her.

She wasn’t like the other women I’d had over the years, though. Nothing about Liv screamed one-night stand. I didn’t want to just fuck her and be done with her. I wanted to do it again and again and again.

I wanted to talk to her afterward, to find out who she was, what made her tick.

None of that would work for me. I wasn’t the type of guy who invested in a woman. Liv, beautiful as she was, innocent and naïve and magnetic, was still just a woman, and women were trouble.

I didn’t need to make that mistake myself to know that a woman had all the power in the world to mess up a man’s life if she had the chance to dig her nails into his heart.

I wrapped an arm around her, aware of how hot her skin was against mine. I touched my ring with two fingers and twisted it, so that the magic hummed around us, and swept us away.

When we took on a concrete state again, we were in the street in front of Liv’s apartment. I could only go to places I could envision, and since I hadn’t actually been in her apartment—I’d asked Mykel and Lazlo to do the packing—I couldn’t take her to her door. It would have been better. It wasn’t safe out here.

I let go of Liv, and she stepped away. I glanced around. Who knew we were here? Was anyone staking out her apartment, waiting for her to come back?

Nothing seemed out of place in the street.

“Let’s make this quick,” I said.

Liv didn’t need me to ask her twice. She walked to the building door and let herself in. I followed, and she led me up a narrow set of stairs, and then another, and yet another. We passed three floors before we came to hers.

“You climb these stairs every day?” I asked.
