If he decided not to, I had to admit I wasn’t completely opposed to him pinning me down, his powerful, nakedbody on top of mine.

“I mean in Minnesota,” he said. “Why have you come?”

“That’s none of your business,” I said.

Bishop let me up, and I rolled over, jumping to my feet quickly, so I was ready for an attack if it came. Bishop was on his feet in a second, too.

It gave me a better view of his body. He had a sprinkle of dark chest hair, and every inch was muscular and powerful, not only his chest and his arms. He had legs like Atlas, and between his legs hung a cock that suggested he was every bit the alpha male he claimed to me.

I forced myself to look into his eyes again. I realized he was also staring at my body. I was very aware of his cock hardening, and my cheeks burned as I blushed. Helikedwhat he saw.

“You’re not here to work,” Bishop said.

He talked as if my body was a non-issue. Maybe it was. We were naked, but it was normal for shifters to be after shifting. Human clothes just didn’t work with what our bodies went through.

“I am,” I said.

Bishop shook his head. “I looked into you. The job here was organized for you—a favor called in. You were perfectly fine where you were in New York. You’re here for something else, and I want to know what it is.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “You did a background check on me?”

“It’s my job to know who’s in my city and why.”

Why did he give a shit about who I was and what I was here for? Shifters moved between cities all the time. They barely ever posed a threat to the alpha, and if they wanted to stay—which they usually didn’t, they just passed through—then they made it known to the new alpha and deferred to his rule.

Since Bishop was so serious about finding out what I was here for, I decided to tell him. Maybe he could help me out.

“I’m here to find Turk.”

“What for?”

“Does it matter?”

“It does,” Bishop said. “Did he wrong your alpha in some way?”

I shook my head. “He’s missing.”

Bishop scoffed.

“You don’t think that’s a big deal?”

“Turk’s a big boy. If he’s missing, he doesn’t want to be found.

“Ifhe’s missing?” I countered.

“You’re creating drama where it’s not needed,” he said. “There are far bigger fish to fry than a snot-nosed kid like Turk.”

I frowned. “I thought your friend would be upset that he’s missing.”

It was Bishop’s turn to narrow his eyes. “What do you know about Dario?”

I rolled my eyes. This had to be the most suspicious man I’d ever met. The mosthandsome, suspicious man. I couldn’t stop staring at him. It took everything I had not to drop my eyes to his cock again, but maintain eye contact and focus on what he was saying to me.

“Look,” I finally said. “I’m here to find Turk, which is what Colter asked me to do. He’s missing, and as soon as we know he’s safe and sound, then I’ll go back to where I came from. It’s got nothing to do with you. It’s not a power play, and you don’t have to get so worked up every time you see me.”

Bishop widened his stance and folded his arms over his chest. It made his muscular arms bulge, and holy shit, my self-control was out of this world that I didn’t just jump his bones—orbone—and get it over with.

He was irresistible. No matter how much I told myself I had to be professional, neutral, and not give a shit about what this jackass looked like, it proved to be difficult.
