A moment later, Rory came around a corner and nearly bumped into me.

“Watch where you’re going,” she bit out, staggering back a step before she squared her shoulders.

“This is my building,” I said, gesturing to the high-rise behind me. “You should watch whereyou’regoing.”

“You don’t own the sidewalk,” she said.

I bristled. “Are you always so ready to fight?”

“Are you always such a pain in the ass?”

She was so hot. I couldn’t help myself—the more hostile she got, the more I wanted to fuck her. A grin spread across my face despite myself.

“Have a drink with me.”

“What makes you think I want to have a drink with you?” she asked.

I only stared at her. Her features were perfect. A slim face, long lashes, plum, pouted lips. Her light brown hair was almost the color of honey, perpetually messy, and it cascaded over her shoulders now. The tan bohemian top she wore brought out her bronze skin and green eyes. Everything about her looked like she wasn’t even trying, and that was why I liked her that much more.

“Fine,” she said, conceding. I did an internal fist pump. “Where?”

“I’m headed to the Night Owl.”

“I thought it was only open at night.”

“I didn’t say I wanted to drink in a place that was open and riddled with customers.”

She narrowed her eyes at me. “You’re trying to get me alone.”

“Scared?”

Her face hardened. “Let’s go.”

I chuckled and gestured for her to get into my car. I opened the door for her, and she slid into the leather seats. I followed, and my driver took us to the Night Owl.

“It’s in a very run-down area,” she said, looking at the warehouses and factories. “Not exactly the image I would have wanted to send out.”

“I’m not trying to send out an image. I’m giving all the shifters a space to exist, no matter who they are and how much power they do or don’t have.”

“Noble,” she said.

I wasn’t sure if she was being sarcastic.

The car pulled up outside the bar, and I got out, offering my hand to help Rory out. She didn’t take it—feisty, full of fight.

I led her to the bar and unlocked the roller door that made up the entrance, letting her in before I rolled it shut again.

I flicked on the lights, and the bar came to life. I loved it when it was empty, with no one to have to look after, and no one staring at me. I could just be myself here.

We walked to the bar, and I stepped behind it.

“What’s your drink?”

“Vodka,” she said.

I glanced at her. “A girl with class.”

“Drinking during the day isn’t classy.”
