“I don’t know, yet.”

I wanted Rory gone. Ineededher gone. For my sanity, for one, and because she was close with an alpha who wasn’t scared of teaming up with dark magic. I wasn’t ready to allow someone like that into my world.

Dark magic had ruined everything I’d ever cared about.

I trusted Sabrione, though. If she said Rory had to stay…

Fuck!

RORY

Asshole!

I stomped my way through the industrial area until I reached a more commercial area where I could flag down a cab or call an Uber. Damn Bishop for tricking me into thinking he wanted to spend time with me.

Damn myself for being attracted enough to him to fall for it!

I couldn’t stay away from him, even though every fiber of my being screamed at me and told me I had to focus on what I was here for.

When I was in the cab, I gave him the address to go back to the clinic. I had left my backpack there after my shift. I didn’t really need it; it only had a change of clothes and a half-eaten lunch in it, but I wasn’t ready to go home.

You focus on weakness all the time.

If he didn’t understand compassion and help, then he was a jerk. I should have known he was a jerk from the start. The fact that I’d allowed him to convince me to have a drink with him was on me.

“What’s up?” Elaine asked when I stomped into the clinic like a storm.

“Nothing,” I said.

Elaine raised her eyebrows. “It doesn’t look like nothing.”

“It’s nothing,” I repeated.

“Someone was here, asking for you.”

That pulled me up short. “Who?”

“I don’t know. Tall, handsome as hell, stubble on his chin.”

I frowned. “Did he try to get you in bed?”

Elaine blushed.

I sighed. “I think I know who it is. He’s my brother.”

“Oh, you’re related?” Elaine asked, her eyes sparkling. “So, he’s free game?”

“He’d just sleep with you and move on. It’s not worth the effort,” I said. What was Mykel doing here? “What did he want?”

“He said he wanted to talk to you. I told him you left for the day, so he said he would wait for you at your place.”

I groaned. It was definitely Mykel, then. Colter must have sent him.

“Thanks,” I said.

“Are you sure he’s not worth the effort?” Elaine asked. “I don’t mind not having anything serious, if it looks likethat.”
