“Don’t think. Just be with me. We’ll figure the rest out later.”

He was right. What was done was done. Might as well enjoy it and deal with the fallout when we got there. I could stay in this moment with Bishop for a while longer.

I could stay here forever.

RORY

When I got home the next morning, a car stood by my driveway. I frowned.

I was getting tired of people arriving at my place unannounced.

For a moment, fear tugged at me—what if this was someone who wanted to take me out?

That was unlikely, though. If someone had wanted to attack me, they wouldn’t have given themselves away by parking in my driveway. No, this had to be about something else.

When I pushed open my door, Colter walked toward me from the kitchen. He was striking, as always, vibrating with alpha energy.

“Oh, it’s you,” I said, a part of me still relieved that it wasn’t someone who put me in danger.

“Were you expecting someone else?”

“I wasn’t expecting anyone at all,” I replied. “What are you doing here?”

“Where were you last night?”

I frowned at him and put my bag down next to the door. I still wore yesterday’s clothes. I hadn’t gone to Bishop with the intention of staying over. That had just happened, and since we’d slept naked and done a lot of other things besides sleeping, I hadn’t needed a change of clothes.

“Am I supposed to give you a time sheet or something?”

“Why are you being evasive?” Colter demanded.

“Why are you being so hostile?” I countered. “I get home to someone already in my house, and the first thing you do is question me? A, ‘hi, how are you’ would have been nice.”

“Hi,” Colter said sarcastically. “How are you?”

I sighed and walked to the kitchen. “Do you want coffee? Breakfast? I can whip something up.”

“I had food at the airport.”

“You just flew in for the day, huh?”

“I don’t have time to spend here in Minneapolis. I have shit to take care of back home.”

“Then why are you here?” I put on the coffeemaker, so I could get something to wake me up. I hadn’t slept much last night.

The thought made me shiver with an echo of pleasure, and I forced myself not to smile like an idiot.

Someone knocked on the door.

“Who is that?” Colter asked.

“How should I know?” I snapped. “If you wanted someone clairvoyant, you should have sent a fae rather than me.”

“Nice,” Colter muttered sarcastically.

I walked to the door, and Colter followed behind.
