“But you knew for much longer… You knew where he was this whole time?”

Bishop didn’t answer me, which was answer enough. I shut off, distancing myself from him. Maybe not physically, but emotionally. He’d known where Turk was this whole time, and he hadn’t told me?

“You knew I was looking for him,” I pointed out. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t know what you wanted him for,” Bishop said simply.

I shook my head. “You couldn’t trust me?”

“Well, not at first—”

“What about later, when you knew that you could? You still kept it from me.”

Bishop clenched his jaw. His eyes suggested he was closing himself off from me, too. That just pissed me off. Who did he think he was? I knew he was the alpha around here, but that didn’t excuse him from being decent.

“I just wanted to find my pack member; that’s it. Did you think I had nefarious purposes for being here?” I demanded, anger boiling under my skin.

“Colter sent you here. I couldn’t be sure what you wanted,” Bishop said. “Everything is a power play. I had to be sure that you weren’t here to take what was mine.”

“How the fuck was I supposed to do that?!” I cried out. “Does it look to you like I’m trying to take power from anyone?”

Bishop hesitated before he shook his head.

“What about you?” I challenged, suddenly suspicious of everything Bishop had said or done in the past. Until this moment, I’d trusted him, but suddenly, I wasn’t sure if I could trust him at all.

“I don’t understand what you are asking. What about me?” Bishop asked.

“Why did you choose me?”

“I didn’t choose you,” Bishop said.

For some reason, that was more of an insult. I shook my head, my back up.

“What do I give you?” I asked.

“What are you talking about?”

“Are you after me for my power, too?” I shifted away from him, pulling out from underneath his arm, and I twisted on the couch so I could face him directly. “Is this because you want more?”

Bishop looked surprised. “This has nothing to do with power. Trust me, if I wanted to go after you for your power, I wouldn’t bother with a deal with Dario.”

“Or maybe you were gunning for the best of both worlds,” I said.

My ears had started ringing, and I was getting angrier. I felt cheated, betrayed. Was I here because Bishop actually liked me, or did he want the power that our bond afforded him?

“You’re not being fair,” Bishop said. “This thing between us wasn’t planned; you know that.”

“How?” I asked.

Bishop shook his head and stood, putting more distance between us.

“You can’t possibly think I’m using you for your power.”

“I’m from another pack, and you’re saying Turk wants to make a move on Colter’s power. What if it’s the same thing with you?”

“Rory, where the hell is this coming from?”

I couldn’t answer that question because Ididn’tknow where it was coming from. Bishop hadn’t ever given me reason to doubt him, but he’d been so incredibly hostile toward me when I’d come here, that it would make sense to either drive me away… or bond with me. I shook my head and scrubbed my face with my hands, trying to figure out what was going on.
