“Fuck,” he bit out, but the curse word wasn’t laced with pleasure as the others had been. “Oaklee… fuck!”

“What?” I asked. “What’s wrong?”

Jameson pulled out of me and stood on his knees, his cock still hard, chest rising and falling. “What was that?”

“What was what?”

“Didn’t you feel it? The bond…”

“Isn’t it always like that?” I asked. “I thought sex brought people together.”

Jameson narrowed his eyes at me. “What do you mean, isn’t it always like that? Have you felt this with someone else?”

I scratched my chin. “Well, no. I just…” I hesitated and sat up. My body still hummed with the aftermath of our sex, the orgasm still tugging at me, although Jameson had pulled back. His mood made the atmosphere in the room shift and change, the pure sexual pleasure bleeding away to give way to panic and doubt.

Mine, or his? I wasn’t sure anymore.

Jameson narrowed his eyes at me. “Have you had sex before?”

I hesitated, tracing my collarbone with my fingers. “You’re my first.”

Jameson stared at me. “What?”

I didn’t know what to say. I knew he’d heard me.

“How could you not tell me you were a virgin?” he demanded. “What was that out there, then?” He pointed in a general direction, and I assumed he meant the voyeur room.

“Am I supposed to be a seasoned…” I didn’t know what the word was. Fucker? That sounded weird. “Should I have had sex to actually do that? Is there some kind of rule about this club and virginity?” I hadn’t read anything, and I’d poured over the code of conduct when I’d gotten bored during lulls in my work. I’d wanted to know what it would be like for someone coming here just as a patron, a guest of the club.

“Well, no,” Jameson said.

“Then it’s fine, isn’t it? Don’t tell me you don’t have virgins coming in here sometimes.”

“I don’t know if I do,” Jameson snapped. “But I don’t fuckthem. I fuckedyou.”

“And now you’re pissed,” I said. I grabbed a pillow and put it on my lap, hugging it to my chest to cover my nakedness.

Jameson shook his head, one hand on his hip, and with the other, he trailed his fingers along his hairline.

“Damn it, Oaklee.”

“I don’t know why you’re angry,” I admitted. “You said you wanted this. You wantedme.”

“I shouldn’t have had you,” Jameson snapped. “I just couldn’t let any of them have you!”

“So, you regret it?”

“Will you stop it?” Jameson demanded. “This is nothing about fucking you. I loved it. I’d do it again. You’reeverything.”

A blush crept to my cheeks.

He continued. “Apparently, youareeverything… that was the mate bond.”

“Thewhat?!” I asked, shock replacing whatever flattery had been there a moment ago. “No, that can’t be. We can’t be—”

“Fated,” Jameson said gruffly. “Looks like it’s like that, sweetheart.” He didn’t sound happy. Wasn’t it supposed to be a good thing?

“I don’t understand what the problem is,” I said carefully. “It’s not like we planned any of this. It just happened, and if the bond is there… isn’t that okay?”
