Cole must sense me slip out of the moment because he smacks my bare ass again, bringing me right back to him. To us.

“Stop thinking,” he says with a chuckle, leaning over me and nipping at my ear. “Just focus on how damn amazing this feels right now.”

“Mmm.” I hum. “So good.” And it’s true. Then again, sex always feels good with Cole.

“You ready to come for me, Lays?”

“Uh-huh,” I reply when he rolls his hips just right, hitting the perfect spot that has my eyes closing and my toes curling.

“Let go, Layla. Let me have it.”

I give him exactly what he wants and I’m rewarded with the feeling of Cole’s own release.

Like always, he holds me close while we catch our breaths.

When we both stand, he offers me a tissue to clean up with and tucks himself back inside his pants while I toss the now used tissue and right my skirt.

Cole pulls away, and I catch the odd look on his face. I can’t help the rush of worry that rolls through me. He looks…distraught.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, trying to keep my voice even.

His eyes find mine. “I’m never going to get any fucking work done. All I’m ever going to be able to think about is how I took you on my desk.” He glares at the desk and I can’t help the laugh that bubbles out of me.

“Poor Cole, sounds like such a hard problem to have,” I tell him, smoothing down my shirt.

“Yeah,” he mutters. “It’s going to be hard every fucking time I’m in my office.”

“I’m sure thousands of people have sex in their offices. They deal with it. You can too.” I grin.

“Have you had sex in your office?” he asks with a raised brow.

“What?” I scoff. Sex in my office, in the same building where I work with my grandmother. “No!”

“We’ll have to rectify that next time.” He says it like it’s a challenge.

I help him pick up the things he flung on the floor and we mostly right his desk. He looks over it one more time and sighs as he pushes a few buttons on his computer. He grabs his phone and wallet off the desk.

“You’ve ruined my office for me.” He smirks.

I shrug. So sad, too bad. This was his idea after all.

He snags my jacket off the chair and opens it to help me put it on. Once it’s in place, I lift my purse and hang it over my forearm.

He grabs the opening of my jacket and pulls me to him. His mouth crushes mine.

Eyes fluttering shut, I’m here for whatever this man wants. But he keeps the kiss sweet, in a sexy, languid way before pulling back.

“I’ve only ever wanted to fuck one person in my office before. And she wasn’t a friend.” Then he places a quick kiss on the tip of my nose. “And just to clear up any possible confusion, I’m talking about you.”

Then he grabs my hand and pulls me out of his office.

Later, after we spend the evening laughing and playing with Pepper, ordering food for dinner and watching our favorite episodes ofSchitt’s Creek, I lie in bed, thinking about the fact that Cole and I are never going to be just friends again.

That I want him with my whole heart and I can’t have him. Because changing my mind now, telling him to stop with the dates, would be to admit that I’m an unethical person. I knowingly slept with a client behind closed doors and I could lose all the clout I’ve worked my ass off to achieve in my adult life.

Knowing that our time together is running out, I fall asleep, vowing to make the absolute most of it before I have to break my own heart and call it quits with Cole.
