“Isn’t it kinda exciting, though, meeting quality women? Is Ruth going to throw you a mixer or was I just special?” I slap him on the shoulder.

“I don’t want to talk about this with you anymore.” He grinds his teeth together.

“Aww, poor buddy can’t take the heat? Not everyone is as amazing as me. Watch out for that dating coach, though. She’s a ball buster. Really fucking good at her job.” I fight the urge to shiver at the reminder of that fake date from hell. Polly is really nice, but things will never be easy between us.

“Yeah, well, when are you gonna stop being a lazy asshole and ask Layla to marry you?” He lobs it at me and I fake surprise.

“Really? It’s been three months, man.”

He tips his head from side to side. “Meh, not really, more like six.”

“Still. It’s too soon. But I’ll make sure to tell you first before I do it,” I tease.

“You’re a douche-nozzle. I’ve got work to do.” He waves me off and turns back into his office.

“Later, man.” I laugh and go on my way.

Truth is, I bought a ring a month ago. Six months, three months, it doesn’t matter. I’m going to spend the rest of my life with Layla. There’s this conception that you have to wait a certain amount of time before getting married, to get to know each other. But Layla and I have known each other for years. We only just found each other again and added sexy time into the mix.

The ring hides in the back of my nightstand while I decide the best way to ask her to marry me. But it will be soon. I can promise that.

The hot September day greets me as I leave LACE and I walk with a pep in my fucking step as I head toward my girl. I had texted Cassie just after lunch to ask if Lays’s calendar had any openings. She told me my windows and here I am. Ten minutes later, I’m stepping off the elevator and all I have to do is grin at Jodie and she lets me go on up to the third floor.

I take my time walking through the large office space, popping my head into Ruth’s office and saying hello. Then I see Cassie, who’s having a meeting with a small group of women, but she winks at me as I nod on my way by.

I get to Layla’s office and see her at her desk. Grinning at how fucking sexy she is, I step inside and quietly close the door behind me. And lock it.

“Knock, knock,” I say, the door to my back.

She startles but recovers quickly. “Who’s there?”

Playing along, I say, “Horny boyfriend.” I stalk across the room toward her.

“Horny boyfriend who?”

Raising my hand, I stop right in front of her. “Me, it’s me. I’m the horny boyfriend.”

Her grin is sly and it’s sexy as fuck. “Hmmm. If only the door were locked.”

“Lays.” I tip my head to the side.

Her gaze darts to the door before coming back to mine. “Your door locking skills have always been undetectable.”

I lean down until our lips brush. “What can I say? I’m a jack of all trades, baby.”

I would say that I’m finally making good on that promise I made the day I confessed my love for Layla, which was to take her in her office. But the truth is, this is not the first time.

I’m not the least bit ashamed to admit that we’ve christened almost her entire office. And mine, for that matter.

If anyone is on to us, they’re not mentioning it. I wouldn’t care, but I know Layla would.

“How much time do we have?” I ask her, already knowing the answer.

Layla pushes away from her desk and spreads her legs. “Hm. At least enough time for you to be the one on your knees this go round.”

I don’t need to be told twice. I’m more than happy to accommodate my girl, especially knowing that the minute I’ve gotten her off, I’ll get mine too.

And I do with ten minutes to spare before her next appointment.
