I suspected I didn't. This thing between us had always been a little... special. We had an obsession that wasn't what I witnessed or heard talked about from others. It was us, and it was perfect.

"Did Pharrell give you a time to meet or is he— " before I could finish my question, there was a knock on the door behind me.

"That's probably him. He likes to greet people as they arrive." Dante moved to answer the door. I stood close by in case it was someone unsavory. I had no qualms about fucking someone up for coming after me or my boy.

As he pulled open the door, I came face to face with Pharrell Lyon. And what a face it was.

If you looked up pretty boy in the dictionary, he'd be there. I would never have guessed he was the point of contact for what we'd need in this bloody war coming our way. He looked more like someone ready to pose for Vogue or walk down a spring runway for the latest fashion designer.

I realized I was staring when my boy began to giggle. "It happens to him all the time. I always find it funny."

Pharrell was good natured about it all. He smirked as he stepped into the room, arm extended. I took his offered handshake, then wrapped a possessive arm around Dante so he couldn't do anything.

"It's good to see you again, Dante. And might I say, you are radiant today. I think having your Daddy around suits you quite nice." His voice was like a melody, smooth and entrancing.

Dante gaped at him. My boy was clearly lost for words.

I chuckled. "I'm guessing you made the connection that he was my boy without him telling you. He appears stunned at you mentioning it."

Pharrell nodded as he gave us a sneaky grin. "May I?" he motioned to the room. I hadn't realized we were still in the entryway.

"Of course. Sorry about that. I needed to get a feel for you before anything else moved forward."

He didn't find any offense in my words. None that he showed outwardly anyway.

"Understandable. I would be the same if I had a boy of my own." I arched a brow at him. "I'm sure Dante has told you I am married, yes? Well, that is more for alliance purposes. My wife is in name only, and she takes to having her own partners in her bed at night. I would do the same, but I have yet to find the right fit for me."

"Ahh. I understand. Well, I do hope that boy of yours finds you one day," I replied.

He nods solemnly. "I do as well. Sooner than later would be nice. But as it stands, we have more pressing matters at hand. Please explain your visit, Dante."

My boy shot forward, his body leaning closer like he was sharing a secret. "As you know, I've been planning to take my father down for years. It was never going to be a simple task, but I know it to be possible. As he's aged, he's become weak. He thinks everyone to be loyal to him, when truly that's not the case."

"But why the rushed timeline? Last we spoke, you had more planning to do."

At Pharrell's question, Dante tilted his head at me. "Things changed. My Daddy kidnapped me and now I've got to rush things."

"Hey! I didn't kidnap you. I was trying to reunite us. I thought your father was keeping you away from me," I grunted out.

"Technically, he was. I was just playing along because it was easier than trying to rush things," Dante said slowly. "Except now we have no choice but to move up timelines. I can't be off grid too long or he will get suspicious. And since I can't very well bring you back into the fold, Preacher, then we have to have things moving in the background for when the moment is right."

"When do you think that moment will be?" Pharrell asked.

Dante shrugged as he leaned back on the couch where we'd settled. Pharrell was in a tall wingback chair across from us.

"I'm not sure, honestly. It could be a month, or it could be two weeks. I don't think it will be long, though. I have a sneaking suspicion we'll be found out before too much time passes."

I nodded in agreement. "He'll get paranoid too. We could play into the delusion if we want to use mind games against him. He won't suspect anything from you two, but from an outside source I'd bet. At least, if he's the same as he was."

My boy snorted a laugh that had Pharrell grinning ear to ear. "He's the same," Dante agreed. "Fatter and balder, but the same."

"Let me talk to the wife to see if she's finally ready to get revenge on that asshole. Then I can let you know how many forces you'll have to help you with this project. If you'll excuse me though, I have business to attend to. There's always something going on in the city that needs my attention. Dinner is on me. Feel free to order all that you wish."

With a quick dip of his head, Pharrell stood and left the room as quickly as he'd come. I watched him go, feeling peaceful about the connection between him and my boy. There was a friendship there more than anything. He might have thought Dante attractive and vice versa, but there was no threat.

"Thank you for not shooting him, Daddy," my boy teased once Pharrell was gone.

"If he'd have flirted at all, then he'd have been limping out of here. I'm glad you have friends now, even if they are too handsome. We'll have to make sure any others know you're mine." I tugged him towards me as I fell back on the couch. He laid on top of me, a big grin on his face.
