He smacked my chest. "Daddy! That's so raunchy!"

"It's the truth. It never much mattered to me anyway. I only ever wanted you." He leaned further into my chest to snuggle.

"You always say the right thing to make me feel better."

I kissed the top of his head as I let the driver take us to whatever location was next. Since it was in the city, it wouldn't be far.

Sure enough, it was less than ten minutes later when the car pulled to a stop in an underground parking garage. There was a door right next to where the car parked with a black cape-like fabric fapping freely. As we waited, the driver came over to cover the door and the entrance to the car with the cloth.

"For privacy, sirs. The elevator is programmed to stop on your floor," he said through the fabric.

I grabbed my boy's hand and led him from the car. We followed the darkened path toward the elevator. When it opened, we stepped into the space and rode until it stopped, and the doors opened into a penthouse level room. There was expensive looking furniture and artwork all around the space.

"Oh, Daddy. It's fabulous. I like it here." Dante took off to explore the rooms as I pulled out my phone to dial Pharrell. I knew the man enough now to contact him on my own.

He answered after the first ring. "I had a feeling you'd be calling soon."

"Yeah. Looks like the timeline is now. How quickly can you get here?" I asked him, my gaze remaining in the direction my boy had gone.

"We're already loading up. I figured the guys could consider it a working vacation if you weren't ready for our arrival. I'm dispersing them all around to come into the city from different angles. I'm sure it will still look suspicious but there's nothing to be done there."

I pressed for an answer. "Ok. ETA then?"

"Can you hold your position for two days? We'll fly as many as we can, then the rest will be by car. I'll send enough to rotate driving schedules, so we don't lose any time."

"Deal," I agreed. "Are you coming as well?"

Something in his tone made me wonder if he wanted in on the action as well. That and the memory of how badly he spoke of Dante's father had me curious.

"Of course. I wouldn't miss this for the world. Plus, my men need to see my allegiance is in the right place."

"Understood. Let me know when you arrive. We'll coordinate the specifics then."

We hung up, and I took off to find my boy. He'd been quiet, and I couldn't imagine him finding anything to hold his attention that long.

Boy, was I wrong.

The second I got to the room, I found what had my boy so quiet. He was passed out on the bed, his mouth open as he curled in a ball.

I grinned as I covered him with a blanket. He needed his rest, so I wouldn't worry him. As soon as I got the lay of the area, I'd be back to hold him tight in my arms.

Others might call him The Monster, but to me, he was just my precious boy.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

DANTE

Preparingfor a war with my father had been inevitable for as long as I could remember. Even at a young age, I inherently knew he would never give up his power willingly. Every talk we had about it, he'd led me to believe he was excited for the future and that he couldn't wait to see me head the organization.

But times changed. Whether it was a desire to retain his power or the fact that he had to send me away after finding out about Preacher, I wasn't sure. All I knew was that one day he stopped trying to pretend.

Ironically enough, I made myself pretend even more at that point. I never wanted him to think I would overthrow him. He needed to believe I was this docile, obedient heir like he wanted.

He knew nothing of the truth. He had no clue I was The Monster that roamed the cities washing away the evil and exacting justice. If he had, then he might have been prepared for what was coming his way.

Of course, with Preacher in the picture and the timeline having been moved up, it was so different from how I envisioned it. There was so much more to lose. Before, it was just me. I would have been the casualty had things gone wrong. Now, there was a chance Preacher would also get hurt or killed, which set off a completely different set of worries for me.

Not that I was given much time to do so.
