“Yeah, I think I’ve got a pretty good idea of what’s going on here,” I muse.

Words that Mia told me this very morning just popped into my head…

…if my brother knew about this, he would drag your ass to jail…

Damn, I thought she meant her brother would call the cops on me. But what if—

Another loud knock sounds against the door.

I huff out a breath and move past both Sly and Rick, who’s still braced against the door, and open it.

Some heavy-muscled dude testing the seams of a suit just walks past me and into the room like he owns the damn place.

I glare at him. Not about to get browbeaten by hisI’m-The-Fucking-Lawattitude. “Hey, what the fuck, man?”

“Carson Gabriel?” he asks, taking one single step in my direction.

I stand my ground, crossing my arms over my chest. “Yes. And you are…?”

He waves the badge in my face, and I read his name off of it, confirming my suspicion.

FBI Special Agent Jared Bravo.

I shake my head. A single airy chuckle escapes my mouth, and both of my friends turn to look at me like I’ve gone crazy.

“Your sister is going to flay you alive when she finds out you came here, man. And if you’re here to warn me that you’re gonna make my life a living hell and sic the entire FBI on me if I don’t stop sniffing around her. Tough luck. Not gonna happen,” I calmly tell him.

If he’s surprised I made him so soon and didn’t let him go on with his intimidating theatrics a little bit longer, he doesn’t show it. He actually fucking smirks at me, slipping his badge back inside his jacket.

“You didn’t really think I would just let you keep on seeing her without making a few things crystal clear to you first. Did you, Mr. Rock Star?”

I hear my friends whispering to each other.

“Shit, her brother is FBI?”

Sly.

“This is really starting to get funny if you ask me.”

Rick.

I ignore them and keep my eyes on Mia’s brother. “By all means. Mr. Bravo, Jared, I mean… I can call you Jared, right?”

He glares at me. “No.”

I smile. “Good, then… so, like I was saying,Jared, you can tell me whatever you’ve come to say, and I will listen as long as you don’t tell me to stop seeing her. And when you’re done, I will tell you a couple of things that Ialsowant to make sure arecrystal clearto you. Alright?”

“You made her cry when you first met her,” he throws in my face.

“She told you that?” I ask.

He shrugs. “She didn’t have to. Care to explain how is it that you went from being rude to my baby sister and running her out of your suite to wanting to get all cozy with her?”

I scratch the side of my head. “Well, I can’t deny I was a fucking ass the day I met her. Jet lag is a bitch, man. I was going on no sleep and had just had the shittiest day possible. And after being used to having to pick fucking nosy-ass paparazzi out of my ass wherever I go, I get out of the shower and just barely have time to throw a towel on and see some chick standing there, and she won’t leave when I ask… so, yeah I was rude. But I apologized to her, and she—”

“Whoa. Stop right there. Back up a minute. You werenakedin front of my little sister?”

I roll my eyes at him. “What? She didn’t tell you about that part?”
