“Plus, I already threw them away a few days ago. I was going to tell you tonight to celebrate our anniversary.”
“What anniversary?” I ask, confused.
“A year ago today was when I made the decision to move out of Pine Ridge to be with you.”
“Do you miss it?”
“Not at all. You are home, Ryder. Wherever you are is where I want to be.”
Her words slide through me and there’s just as sweet as millions of times she’s told me she loves me or the soft way she touches me and broadcasts her feelings. Only this time, they’re more important, because finally, Tilda Mae Carter is going to wear my ring and build a family with me. It’s a dream I always wanted. I just got a little lost on my way to finding it. Thank God Tillie found me.
We kiss and when I pull back, she’s smiling up at me. “I guess it’s true what they say about you, Ryder.”
“What’s that?”

As I claim her mouth again, I lose myself in her which is how it should be, because I’m not sure I was ever living until she gave me the chance to prove to her that I could be her man.
