“Mommy, what did you say?” asked Ellie, ever so sweetly.
Hailey smiled at her and cupped her chin in her hand. “I said yes.”
“Really?” Charlotte asked.
“Really.”
“Does that mean Landon will be with us all the time? Carter asked.
“Yes, it does,” Landon said. “After we get married, we will all live together.”
The kids all jumped up and down and squealed at that news.
“Oh, Mom,” Charlotte said. “I’m so happy. It’s just like Landon said at dinner that time. We never stopped being a family. And now we get to be an even bigger family with Landon.”
Hailey’s eyes filled with tears, but she smiled through them as she looked at her daughter. “That’s right, sweetie. Mommy loves you so much, and you know your daddy loved you more than anything. And now Landon gets to love you too.”
Charlotte wiped at a single tear trailing down her cheek before she wrapped her arms around Hailey.
Carter was already hugging Landon, maybe a little too tight as he spoke at top volume about all the fun things they could do together. Ellie had sandwiched herself in between them and was giggling.
Hailey glanced at Landon as if to say, “Are you sure?”
He laughed as he looked at her and leaned over the top of the kids and kissed her. “I could never have asked for anything more than this,” he said.
“Welcome to the family, Landon.”
He winked at her. “Welcome to your new happily ever after, Hailey.”
