I ran across my room, leapin’ over my bed to get to her. Carefully takin’ her headless body off the string that was around her neck. Straightening her red sparklin’ gown, feelin’ like I got punched in my tummy.

When I looked up, there the murderer was, leanin’ against the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. An evil look takin’ over his face.

One you’d see in ‘R’ rated movies.

“Jackson Pierce, you are rotten to the core! What did Barbie ever do to you to deserve this?!”

“You had my nuts hurting all day, Harley!”

“I hate you and your nuts!” I didn’t wait again, I tackled him to the ground into the hallway.

“Get off me, you Gremlin!”

“Never, you asshole!”

“Harley Jameson!” Momma yelled in that really, really angry voice. The one she only used when I was in lots and lots of trouble.

I didn’t get off him until she pulled me away, and then I got grounded for life, again.

Nothin’ new.

“Harley, this has to stop,” Momma stressed, pullin’ me away from my memory.

“Ugh!” I stomped my foot. “I don’t wanna do this, Momma! I hate him! I don’t wanna pretend like I don’t hate him!”

“Oh, it’s perfectly clear you hate him, young lady. I think you’ve hated him since the day you were born.”

“I have. He sucks big, huge donkey balls.”

“Harley! You can’t talk like that.”

“Momma, if you heard half of the things he’s said to me, you would think he sucks, too.”

“I have heard the things he says to you, Harley. It’s not like you two try to hide your hatred for each other. It’s well known to everyone in town how much you can’t stand one another. Why do you think you’re not allowed on the opposite teams at school anymore, young lady? Remember you hit Jackson with a baseball bat last year?”

“It wasn’t even that hard.”

“Harley, you knocked him out for ten seconds.”

“He was wearin’ a helmet, and he woke back up.” I shook my head. “He was fine. And I only hit him cuz he hit me first.”

“You got hit with a foul ball.”

“That he was pitchin’!”

“Harley, enough! You kicked him in the nuts, again. For the fifth time this month.”

“He blocked a few!”

“Only after the first time you kicked him.”

“That’s only cuz he said I couldn’t jump as high as he could off the swings, when he knows I can. I’m the highest jumper in the first grade.”

Why did Jackson have to try and beat me at everythin’?

Why was he so ugly it hurt my eyes to look at him? And make me want to barf when he was around?

I didn’t know.
