For the rest of the day, Bianca has me stuck in the fabric room, sorting out swatches and reorganizing. It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s giving me this job to keep me away from Finn. I meet Tamara for lunch and give her an abbreviated version of what’s going on between Finn and me. Whether she knows I left a monumental part out of the story, she doesn’t let on.

Back at work, I see Finn. But he’s so focused on what he’s reading in a folder as he walks from his office to the boardroom, he doesn’t notice me. Here I am scanning the office every time I hear a door open, footsteps, and chatter, just to get a glimpse of Finn, and he doesn’t give a glance at my direction at all. Isn’t that what I want? To give my colleagues no reason to gossip about us?

At the end of the day, I find myself once again waiting for the rain to ease so I can make a run for it to the subway. Why didn’t I remember to bring an umbrella? As I’m waiting, a familiar car pulls up in front of me and the window slides down. It’s Finn.

He flashes me his killer smile. “Waiting for me?”

Oh no! Would he think I’m here on purpose? “No…I’m…the rain…”

He chuckles. “I’m joking. Jump in.”

This time I don’t hesitate. I’ve been wanting to see Finn all day. If I can get a few minutes alone with him now, I’ll take it.

Once I’m in the passenger seat, he pulls out onto the road. “Are you hungry?”

Lately, I’m always hungry. Hungry for food. Hungry for my new life. Hungry for Finn. It’s like my freedom has awakened my appetite for everything. “I can eat.”

He flicks me a glance. The light of the dashboard illuminates his beautiful face. “Any requests?”

I nibble my bottom lip. “I’ve had a massive craving lately for something I haven’t had in years.”

“Oh yeah? What is it?”

“I don’t think you’re going to like it.”

He slows down and stops at a red light and turns to face me. “Whatever you want is fine with me.”

“Okay…I’d love McDonald’s.”

Finn’s eyes widen. “McDonald’s? Really?”

I nod and giggle at his shocked expression.

“I can take you anywhere. Are you sure?” The light changes to green, and he navigates through the traffic.

“Yes.”

He chuckles. “Okay.”

When he finds the nearest McDonald’s, he pulls into a parking spot on the side of the road. The rain has eased, and we dash the short distance to the restaurant. After ordering we take our meals to a table.

“I still can’t believe this is where you want to eat.” He shakes his head with disbelief.

“Do you think the burgers and fries taste the same in every country?” I ask as I pop a fry into my mouth.

Finn frowns at his burger. “I don’t know, and I don’t care.”

I giggle at his disgruntled expression. “It’s delicious. Here…” I reach over the table and hold out a fry for him to take. “Try it.”

Instead of plucking it out of my hand with his fingers, he uses his mouth. His lips cover my fingers, giving a little suck as he draws his head back. When I go to pull my hand away, he clasps my wrist, brings my hand to his mouth, and licks my fingers. “Delicious.”

The tugging of his mouth pulls through my stomach, and heat pools between my legs. I squirm in my seat. Clearing my throat, I say, “See, I told you it’s good. Another great way to eat your burger and fries is to lift the lid of the bun and layer the patty with fries.” I go on to demonstrate. I have to think about something other than Finn’s mouth and tongue. We’re in a restaurant with young families. We must keep it PG.

After we finish our meals, Finn relaxes back in his chair. “That was really good.”

I point a finger at him and playfully say, “See! I told you. You’ve gotten too fancy in your old age Mr. Hotshot Fashion Mogul.”

He chuckles at my comment. Then his smile drops. “You were going to be a hotshot fashion mogul too. Ever think you’ll go back to school? I remember you loved it.”
