“Well, she met Trevor when he was in here for his friend’s special eye treatment.” We both laugh at that memory. “I told her that Trevor’s twin brother is much sweeter and equally as good looking. That you’re a great catch. Looks like she already caught you though.” I giggle again. He smiles in triumph.
“Thank you for saying that.”
“I meant it, Hayden. You’re kind, smart, and extremely attractive. Anyone would be lucky to have you.” I don’t know why he has such little self-confidence. It’s such a contrast to Trevor.
“Thanks Harley.”
After I finish the tour and say my goodbyes, I head to the break room to grab a quick cup of coffee before heading to the lab. As I’m leaving, Dr. Waters walks in. He grabs my arm unnecessarily hard. “Hey Harley.”
I pull my arm away. “I’m just headed to the lab. I’ll see you later.”
“Harley, I’m very sad that I haven’t gotten any time alone with you. That’s going to change at some point. How would you like to scrub into my surgery tomorrow? We can meet tonight and review the file along with a few surgical procedures.”
“Sorry, I can’t. I’m with Dr. Powers tomorrow.”
“Does she have a surgery? I didn’t see anything on the board.”
“No, she’s going to teach me a few of the techniques she learned at her conference last week.”
“Wouldn’t you rather scrub into a surgery?”
“I know that I want to go into cardiothoracic surgery, so I think my time is best spent with her. That, and I know she already booked time for me in her schedule. Thanks anyway.”
“I have another surgery the day after. How about that?”
“I’m scrubbing into one of Dr. Cooper’s surgeries that day.”
“Yes, I’ve noticed that you scrub in for an awful lot of his surgeries.”
“I appreciate the opportunities he gives me.”
“Earned, no doubt.”
“I work my ass off. That’s how you earn opportunities.” I give him my best fake smile. “Have a good day.”
I turn to leave, but he grabs my arm again. “Our time will come, Harley. Don’t you worry your pretty little head.”
I pull away and leave. I can’t stand that guy. I have tears welling in my eyes as I round the corner, straight into Brody. He takes one look at me and knows that I’m upset. He pulls me into a closet. He rubs his hand down my cheek. “What’s wrong?”
I look down. “Nothing. Just the normal dose of weekly harassment from Dr. Waters.”
He sighs. “Please let me report him. It’s out of control.”
“No, it’s not worth it. He’s been doing this to me for years. He’s mostly harmless. I think he just likes to get under my skin and ruffle my feathers. I won’t give him the satisfaction of knowing that he’s succeeded. It’s my word against his anyway. I just want to keep my head down an learn everything I can. In the next few months, I’ll pick my specialty and work solely with Dr. Powers. I need to stick it out until then.”
“How about he and I have a chat?” I shake my head. “I can only take so much of this, Harley. One day I’m going to punch him, and it will give me great pleasure to watch him go down.”
“Please don’t. Then he’ll know something is going on between us. I’m pretty sure he already suspects it.”
“How about I tell the administration of lewd comments he’s made about you? I can’t imagine they’d be too happy about that.”
I didn’t know that. “Like what?”
“He’s made a few comments to me through the years about your body and your tight ass.”
I take his hands and place them on my ass. “This tight ass is yours and only yours.” I pull his face to mine and kiss him.
He nibbles at my lips. “I wasn’t aware that your ass is available to me. Good to know. I plan to take advantage of that very soon.” He gives me a squeeze and another kiss.
