I blinked several times, waiting for the world to come into focus. My body was sore as fuck and the dreams…fuck, whatever that doctor gave me, I was going to kill him. Talk about a mindfuck. I cocked my head to the side and realized I was staring up at the sky.

“I’m just saying, next time try to avoid birds!”

“Yeah, that’s like asking the Titanic to avoid the iceberg on a still night when the water isn’t moving.”

I raised my head and saw Scottie walking around with Lock following him. I tilted my head in confusion. We were on grass in what looked like the middle of the country.

“It was a bird! Why didn’t you honk or something?”

Scottie spun around and snorted. “Honk? What do you think this is?”

“A fucking airplane, which is why I’m surprised you couldn’t fly, since you have a pilot’s license!”

“I can fly,” Scottie spat. “I can also crash safely, in case you didn’t notice!”

Crash? What was he talking about? I shoved up on my good arm until I could sit upright. My eyes widened when I saw the parachute vest around my legs and followed it up to my chest. My eyes widened as I patted my chest, then winced at the pain in my shoulder. I felt around and grimaced.

Blood soaked my fingers. My stitches from my shoulder wound had opened. I stared at my bloody fingers in confusion. I did get on a plane, didn’t I? Why was I here? Had I gone back into battle? That couldn’t be. I had a bum leg.

My head snapped to my leg, and sure enough, it was still in the cast they fitted me with in the hospital. But now it was dirty. I swallowed hard and looked around, then saw the massive fireball in the distance. Black smoke filled the air, and now all the pieces were starting to come together.

“Hey, you’re awake,” Rae said, smiling at me.

“What…what…” I couldn’t say anything more than that.

“Yeah, there was a teeny tiny incident.”

“We’re not in a plane,” I said stupidly.

“Yeah, that kind of crashed.”

I nodded, then gasped as my body was jerked back and I floated for several feet before crashing back to the ground. My body was bouncing, banging my leg before I was lifted again and taken on another ride. I screamed as my leg slammed into the ground and I was lifted for a third time.

“Son of a motherfucking bitch!” I shouted, then jerked to a stop.

“Rae, I thought you took his parachute off!” Cash shouted.

“He jumped tandem with you. I thought you did it!” she retorted.

Jumped tandem?I mouthed. “What the fuck is going on?”

“It’s no big deal. You’re completely fine,” Lock said as he walked over.

“I’m bleeding,” I shouted, pointing to my shoulder.

“Yeah, but you just popped a few stitches. I can fix that up in no time.”

My eyebrows shot up comically. “Fix that? They shouldn’t be unfixed! I just got out of the fucking hospital! I have a gimp leg and a bum shoulder. Why would you throw me out of a plane?”

“Technically, I jumped with you out of the plane,” Cash explained. “See, we hit this bird and the engine went out. Thankfully, we were already on our descent and—”

“I don’t give a fuck why you threw me out of a plane!” I shouted.

“Again, we tandem jumped,” Cash explained. “It’s the complete opposite of being thrown out of a plane.”

I ran my fingers through my hair as my heart thundered out of control. Maybe being with Rae wasn’t such a good idea. These people were fucking crazy! And I was becoming one of them. Logically, I knew that if I had been awake during it, I wouldn’t be freaking out. But I thought I had dreamed all that. Now I was reliving it.

“Baby?” Rae asked as she walked up to me like a scared kitten. “You doing okay?”
