“How am I going to get the juicy details if I don’t ask?”

“Hey, I helped you out when you snuck into Jane’s house. Don’t push me.”

A sly grin split her lips. “Actually, since we’ve kept your secret from Cash, you’re in our debt. If you want me to keep my lips sealed, you’ll give me this one thing.”

I still didn’t say anything. I wouldn’t be blackmailed.

“Come on,” she whined. “I have a baby now. I have to live vicariously through other people.”

I could only imagine what that was like, and I found myself feeling bad for her. I couldn’t imagine having a kid saddled to me and not being able to do the things I loved to do.

“Nothing’s happening. He kissed me.”

“I know,” she grinned. “I saw it.” She slapped a hand over her mouth with a giggle. “Damn, girl. That’s all I’ll say.”

“Why is that all you’ll say?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at her.

“Talk about hot. And you can’t tell me there’s nothing going on. I have eyes, you know.”

I sighed heavily. “Even if I wanted something to be going on, there’s no chance of that. He’s still seeing that dumb blonde.”

“She’s nothing. It’s clear as day.”

“Yet he keeps going back to her.”

“Because you won’t give him the time of day. Duh,” she said like I was a complete moron. “He’s clearly going back to her because he’s horny as hell with a woman like you stringing him along. And that blonde bitch is willing to give it up, so he allows it, only because it gives him the smallest amount of relief. But in the end, he’ll always feel shitty about it because you’re the one he wants. And as long as he can’t have you, he’ll always be suffering.”

My eyes shot up in surprise at her assessment. “Got all that from a kiss, did ya?”

“Hey, I write screenplays. I can see how this plays out. He’s got your name written in the stars.”

“What does that even mean?” I scoffed.

“It means that as long as you’re alive and walking the earth, he will never want anyone but you.”

“That’s a little dramatic, don’t you think? We barely know each other.”

She pursed her lips at me, scolding me like I was a kid. “Go with me on this. Just pretend that two people can be meant for each other.”

“Seriously?”

“I said to go with me on this. Anyway, he wants you. We can all see it. He only has eyes for you. That’s not likely to change anytime soon.”

“And your point?”

“He’s going to keep coming after you. He can’t resist you. You’re like Johnny and Baby.”

“I’m sorry, what?” My eyebrows climbed higher as I stared at her.

“Okay, granted you’re Johnny and he’s Baby, but it’s the truth. You’re all attitude and he’s Baby, longing to get close to you, naive enough to think you’ll let him in.”

“I am so confused right now.”

“That’s okay. I’ve got it covered for the both of you. Just hear me out on this.”

I held up my hand. “I think I’ve heard enough. Don’t you have a screenplay to write?”

“Definitely. I was going to use this.”
