She would never be satisfied with settling down and living a normal life. She wore her battle scars with pride. I ran my fingers over what looked like a knife wound. She was fierce.

I sighed and dropped my head back on my pillow. She was fucking perfect, but there was no way she’d ever consider anything other than sex with me. After what happened with Carolyn, I didn’t think I’d ever consider marriage again. It was a mindfuck to think I had a kid and then have it ripped from my life, even if I never met him. But as I laid here with Rae, I couldn’t help but think of what life could look like, if only she would give me a chance.

She rolled over in her sleep and snuggled in closer. She’d probably kick me in the balls for staring at her if she was awake. Hell, I knew this was unlikely to go anywhere, but it was worth the risk to at least try for a little bit of happiness.

“Screw it,” I muttered as I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her in closer.

“I was trying to sleep.”

I nipped at her neck, making her squirm in my arms. “Go back to sleep. I’ll handle everything else.”

“Fucking a sleeping person is not sexy,” she muttered, her voice rough from screaming my name so much during the night.

“That’s why I woke you up,” I said, continuing to nip at her skin.

She pressed her hands to my chest and sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. “Fuck, I could have slept for at least two more hours.”

I tried to kiss her again, but she wouldn’t let me.

“No, you woke me up. Now I’m leaving.”

“I haven’t made you breakfast yet.”

“Is this like last night when you said you would make me steak?”

“I did make it. It just wasn’t edible by the time I was done fucking you.”

She pulled the sheet up around her breasts and pulled her legs in to sit cross-legged. “So, what do you have in mind for breakfast?” At my hungry look, she shook her head. “Food.”

“Tell you what, you take a shower and I’ll get started on breakfast. I’m assuming you want coffee.”

“At fuck o’clock in the morning? Yes, I need coffee.”

She brushed her hair out of her face as I stood and bent over to kiss her. I ripped the sheet from her body and bent over, pulling her nipple in my mouth. “Just needed a taste,” I whispered, before leaving her to get showered.

I got to work on breakfast, checking the time. It was five in the morning, which was earlier than I wanted to be up, but I was the idiot that woke her up thinking I would get laid again.

By the time I made bagels and spread cream cheese on them, she was getting out of the shower, rubbing her hair with a towel. She was dressed in only my shirt, which looked fucking sexy as hell on her. I poured her a cup of coffee and handed it over.

She wrapped both hands around it and took a sip, her eyes closing as she drank. “God, this is good.”

I slid the plate over to her, but she was not impressed. “This is your idea of breakfast?”

The buzzer on the oven rang and I turned to pull out the egg casserole I whipped up. It was nothing special, just a recipe my mom made. In fact, I hadn’t made it in so long, I wasn’t sure I even did it right.

“Wow, I should come over here more often for breakfast. I usually eat a breakfast bar before work.”

“I usually grab coffee and eat at the diner later.”

She smirked at me. “Yeah, that’s hard to do when you sleep with the staff.”

I huffed out a laugh. “Well, if you hadn’t kept turning me down, it never would have happened. You can blame my hunger on yourself.”

I dished out a plate of casserole for her and then took some for myself. “Anything interesting happening today?” she asked around a forkful of eggs.

“Just the usual,” I grinned. “The life of a mechanic is hardly exciting. What about you?”

“The usual. We have some guys going out on a job, so I have to get set up for that.”
