“Actually, I think I can handle this on my own.”

Eli snickered in amusement. “Not from what I’m seeing.

“There are no plans this evening. What you and I agreed to was sex.”

“Actually, it was never discussed. I think that leaves things open for interpretation.”

Duke’s gaze swung to Lock.

He sighed heavily and got to work. “Alright, what were the parameters set forth upon the initial meeting?”

“He challenged me to dinner.”

“And you accepted,” he nodded. “Were there expectations of sex?”

“Of course not. I didn’t even know I was going to sleep with him until I got over there.”

“Interesting. Well, clearly, that’s not a booty call situation. The fact that you didn’t intend to sleep with him proves that when you slept together, it was out of a burning desire that you couldn’t control. If it was purely about sex, it would have been a prearranged meeting with rules and constructs already in place.

“Which leaves this open to further discussion,” Duke grinned. “I’m here!”

“And I’m not discussing this based on the ramblings of one man.”

“I second Lock’s assessment,” Eli said, raising his hand.

“Third,” Kavanaugh agreed, winking at me.

Seeing I wasn’t getting anywhere in a room full of guys, I huffed and stormed out of the room. Duke grabbed me by the arm as I stormed past, pulling me close to his body. “Tonight. Seven o’clock.”

His voice rumbled through me before he planted an indecent kiss on my lips. I shivered under his touch, stepping away from him just as I heard Eli’s laughter.

“Yeah, definitely not a booty call.”

“I fucking knew it,” I muttered as I paced my kitchen. Dinner was on the table, cold as a woman’s tits in the dead of winter. After all the trouble I’d gone to, she still stood me up. This was unacceptable.

I laid out the rules just like Cap told me to, and still, she didn’t show. I turned and flung the door open, marching out to my truck. Whatever the fuck her problem was, this was going to stop. She could kick my ass, pretend this meant nothing to her, and shout it to the world. She was still mine.

When I got to OPS, which was only a thirty-second drive from my place, I marched up to the doors. I didn’t even have to wait to be buzzed in. As if everyone knew I was coming, the doors opened for me. The elevator opened as soon as I reached them and took me right to the IT floor. Someone was looking out for me.

And wouldn’t you know it, as soon as I stood outside the IT room, the light on the sensor flicked to green and the door unlocked. I flung it open, getting a short salute from Dash before he scrambled out of the room. Rae turned, clearly expecting someone else, and pursed her lips at me.

“What are you doing here?”

“It’s eight o’clock.”

“Is it?” she asked innocently. “Gee, time must have escaped me.”

“I told you to come for dinner.”

She sighed, placing her hand on her hip. “Listen,Dukey. It was bucket loads of fun, but you and I both know this will never work.”

“Because I’m a mechanic,” I said as I stalked toward her.

“One of the many reasons.”
