He stopped at the next door, and a bedroom stared back. But nothing suspicious caught his eye there either.

A hallway loomed ahead of him.

As he headed down it, he saw a smear of red on the wall.

Was that . . . blood?

He swallowed hard. He thought it was.

But he needed to know for sure.

As he reached a door, Duke twisted the handle using the sleeve of his shirt.

He wasn’t sure what he was expecting.

But itwasn’ta man lying in the middle of the floor . . . with blood pooled around him.

As soon as Andi saw Craig, her head began to spin.

He was . . . he was dead.

Not only was he dead . . . he’d been murdered.

Andi’s heart began to beat harder.

What if the killer was still here? She’d seen those footprints leading away from the house. But what if this person had circled back around to the other side of the house? What if this person was still close?

“I need you to stay here.” Duke gently but firmly backed her up until she was against the wall. “And don’t touch anything.”

Another shiver of fear went through her.

She didn’t want to stay in the room with Craig. Didn’t want to look at his bloody body.

But she knew what Duke was saying. He needed to check out the rest of this place more thoroughly.

Just in case the killer was still here.

He leaned closer, his voice whispering against her cheek. “You have your gun with you?”

Andi nodded, reached into her bag, and pulled it out.

“Don’t be too trigger-happy,” he said. “But keep it close just in case.”

Andi knew what he was saying—don’t accidentally pull the trigger on him.

She tried to swallow, but something clogged her throat.

Probably fear.

She tried not to look at Craig. But how could she not? He was right in front of her.

A sick feeling swirled in her gut.

He’d been about to announce the killer when someone had silenced him forever.

Most likely the same person who’d killed Henrietta had also killed Craig, all in an effort to keep his identity a secret.
