Could this get any worse?

He looked up and saw Andi observing him, a curious gleam in her eyes.

The woman was sharp. Duke could clearly see that by how she acted and talked. She wasn’t your average truck driver—not that truck drivers weren’t smart. But there was definitely more to this woman than she let on.

“I think we should finish what we started in the studio,” she announced. “See if there’s any evidence about who this killer is. Especially since he’s seen our faces now.”

He swallowed hard. Andi was absolutely correct.

If they didn’t have a personal stake before, they did now.

“Certainly Craig took notes on different things he researched,” Andi continued. “If we can figure out who he thought Henrietta’s killer was, then we can figure out who Craig’s killer is also. Then, once that guy’s behind bars, you and I can resume our normal lives.”

Duke couldn’t argue with her statement.

He glanced at her, the confidence in her words surprising him. There was something special about Andi he couldn’t quite put his finger on.

His curiosity about this woman continued to grow.

For some reason, he wanted to understand where she was coming from. What she was thinking.

He nodded toward the office. “Let’s do it.”

Andi felta thrum of nerves race through her as she stepped back into Craig’s studio.

She averted her gaze from the floor.

It wasn’t her first time seeing a dead body. But the experience wasn’t something she wanted to repeat.

Instead, her gaze went to the filing cabinet located on the back wall.

“There. I bet that’s where he’d keep any information.” Andi turned toward him as excitement fluttered inside her.

Duke stayed close behind her as they walked toward it.

She hesitated in front of it, wishing she had gloves. But she didn’t so she’d have to make do with what she had.

She pulled her sleeve down over her fingers so she wouldn’t leave any prints.

Then she opened the top drawer of the gray metal cabinet and stared at the contents inside.

Each row of files had a name, each one corresponding to a different season that Craig had done on his podcast.Missing in Action. The Most Horrific Scene. The Unintended Route.

Then she reached Henrietta Blanco.Just the Nicest Person. That was what Craig had called this season because Henrietta had been so kind to those around her.

Within the row of files about Henrietta, there were multiple folders for various episodes.

Andi flipped through them before stopping at the hanging folder labeled Episode Eight.

“It’s missing,” she muttered.

“What?” Duke leaned closer.

“Do you see the file for the eighth episode anywhere? It’s not in the cabinet. Maybe Craig had it out as he was doing the podcast.” Carefully, Andi searched the rest of the room.

But she didn’t find the folder anywhere.
