Something glimmered in Bunny’s gaze as she nodded. “I’ll tell you to do the same.”

Andi flushed and quickly nodded in agreement. But she had no intentions of dating, so she wouldn’t have the opportunity to settle or keep her high expectations.

Instead, she nodded at the door. “Skeeter still out there?”

“That jerk?” Bunny scowled and rolled her eyes at the same time. “He gives me the creeps.”

“I imagine he gives every woman the creeps.”

“You can say that again.”

The two of them exchanged a small smile, finally finding something to bond over.

Then Bunny peeked out the door. “It looks like he’s gone. Now hurry out there and finish that food. It’s too good to waste.”

“It is awfully tasty. And Iamhungry.” Her stomach rumbled in response.

“You go enjoy it. Then you go talk to Joe.”

Bunny seemed to have all of this figured out.

That was usually Andi’s role.

But sometimes Andi was wrong—like when she’d been so quick to form an impression of Bunny.

She actually liked the woman.

What else might Andi be wrong about?

Duke’s muscles wouldn’t relax, not after the confrontation with that Skeeter guy.

He was trouble.

“Women . . .” Ranger muttered as they sat there, nearly empty plates in front of them.

Neither had wasted any time scarfing down their food. Andi’s, however, was half full.

“You can say that again.” Duke rubbed his jaw, willing himself to loosen up.

A few more minutes of silence passed.

Then Ranger asked, “You got anyone attached to you?”

Duke did a double take, surprised by the personal question. Ranger didn’t seem like the kind of guy who would ask.

“I’m engaged.”

Ranger’s eyebrows shot up. “Really? I wouldn’t have guessed.”

Duke stiffened at his words. “Why’s that?”

“You don’t strike me as the type who’d be engaged.”

His eyes narrowed. “I don’t understand.”

Ranger shrugged nonchalantly. “You’re one of those people that give off an aura.”
