I pull her closer to me and she lets me. I wrap my arms around her back. She’s so tiny, she fits perfectly against me, her head resting just at my sternum.

“I’m not trying to sound like a sleaze, but I know you’re concerned. So why can’t we be friends at work, but then get to know each more at night?” She slaps my chest. “I don’t mean it like that, but we can have dinner and watch movies and-“

“Netflix and chill?”

I laugh when she cuts me off. “We’re a little old for Netflix and chill. I can cook you dinner and then fuck you to sleep. Every night. Doesn’t that sound better?”

Her eyes widen and she wants to act like she’s shocked, but I see the want dancing across her face.

“Moving a little fast, aren’t we? We haven’t even kissed.”

My eyes light up. I know they do because her smile spreads as she watches me. She’s inviting me in with that sentence. She knows it; I know it. And I’m going to take full advantage.

“Damn, you’ve got me so frazzled I left a pretty girl like you hanging. Since you insist on a proper kiss, we need to rectify that right now.” I widen my stance, dropping my back a bit more against my truck so I don’t have to break my neck, and lean down to kiss her. She tilts her head and raises up on her tiptoes.

And when we meet, it’s electric. A current passes between us I’ve never felt before. Her cotton candy scent surrounds me. Her lips taste like sugar. They’re soft and meld to mine. I slide my large hands up her waist, they span her rib cage. I squeeze her, my thumbs brushing underneath her breasts. She nips my bottom lip, and a groan escapes me. I feel her smile against me and when I open my eyes; her blues are darker and dancing with mischief.

“Now that’s a kiss I won’t soon forget.”

“Good to know. It’s what I was going for.”

This woman gives as good as she gets, and I’m left wondering if this is the fun and flirty relationship I've been waiting for?

MACKENZIE

“I know that look.”

I pause as I enter the office inside the locker room and see Summer watching me from the desk. My feet keep me moving and I walk to the other side of her, drop my bag and lean against the desk.

“What look?”

She narrows her eyes at me. Waiting for me to spill secrets. We both have a standoff.

She breaks first. “You’re in love!”

I let out a squeal and Summer responds with a snort-laugh. “No, I’m not! What are you talking about?”

She waves her hands around. “Not in love, but in like, for sure. Spill it.”

I shake my head at her. “Just because you’re in love doesn’t mean everyone else is. “

“That’s very clear to me. However, since the last time I saw you, there is something different.”

Is there? After Our kiss yesterday, the one that tasted like cinnamon and everything right in the world, Mark dropped me back at my car. I spent all night thinking about him. Wondering if I could really make it work. I enjoyed my time with him, and once you get past the shameless flirt, Mark is a great guy. He’s a teaser and a pleaser, and that’s where his happy-go-lucky love everyone attitude comes from.

I sit. “Fine. Yes, I had a date.” Summersqueeeesand claps her hands. “Relax! It was one date!”

“But you want it to be more, I can tell. Who is it? Tell me!”

“No, you don’t know him.” I hurriedly spit out. “It’s brand new. We’re going slow. I don’t even know if it’s going to amount to anything.”

She raises an eyebrow and continues watching me, but then reluctantly lets me off the hook. “Okay, I’ll back off. You’ll tell me when you’re ready.”

“I will, I promise. Thank you. Where are the girls? Warming up?”

“Yes, I had them on the other side of the field. The offense is running drills today.”

A little butterfly erupts in my belly. If the offense is out there, maybe Dash is there watching his son. And if Dash is there, Mark might be there, too.
