“You can cook,” she said, eyeing the bacon and eggs. “Always a good sign.”

I smiled, catching her lips in a quick kiss. She inhaled sharply when I casually palmed her breast. I had to force myself to quit fondling her otherwise we’d never get a chance to eat. We made short work of the food and then I set the tray on the floor before crawling back under the covers with her. I pulled her into my arms, spooning her from behind and we drifted off to sleep for an hour or two.

When I woke up I noticed she’d turned around to face me and was nuzzling my neck. I ran my hand along her shoulder then down her spine before cupping her arse. She had such a peachy arse and I didn’t think I’d ever get tired of grabbing it.

“Conor,” she gasped and I dragged my lips across her chin.

“What is it, baby?” I replied low.

“Make love to me again.”

As soon as the words left her mouth I rolled her beneath me. I wasn’t due at work for the rest of the week and I planned to spend as much of that time as possible worshipping her heavenly body.

Yvonne

Conor and I barely left the apartment for two whole days. His assistant, who had since returned from her trip to visit family, dropped some clothes over for him so that we could cocoon ourselves away from the world.

Honestly, they might’ve been the best two days of my life. Ev had been with Dylan in the townhouse so we had the entire apartment to ourselves. Well, we did until she dropped in one morning and caught Conor stepping out of the bathroom, freshly showered with a towel around his waist

And that was how my niece found out about us. Word quickly spread to Dylan and Conor’s family, who I was surprised to find were thrilled about the whole thing. All this time there’d been a fear in the back of my mind that his parents wouldn’t approve of us but that fear had all been for nothing.

I was still reeling a little bit from his declaration of love. He hadn’t said it to me again since. Maybe he thought I might freak out and go weird on him. That wasn’t the case at all. In fact, I’d been waiting for him to tell me again because I sort of felt like saying it back.

I know, crazy.

We’d been together for two days. I couldn’t possibly be in love with him already. I was being a lunatic.

But I’d known him for so much longer than two days, and every time I looked at him my heart filled to the brim in a way that was completely new to me. I hadn’t felt for anyone what I felt for Conor. He was so kind and open and clever. There were so many things to love about him that it was impossible not to fall. It was scary though. To feel so much for someone in such a short space of time.

It was my first day back at work and after the mini honeymoon shacked up in my apartment it almost felt surreal to go back to my normal life. We’d organised to meet up later. Conor was bringing me for a walk in Central Park before taking me for dinner at one of his favourite restaurants nearby.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been wined and dined.

I was determined to keep my insecurities at bay. I wouldn’t allow my brain to convince me that I somehow wasn’t right for him. If Conor truly was in love with me then how could I not be right for him? And besides, I would never do anything to hurt him. He’d given me his heart and I planned to do my best to treat it with the love and care it deserved.

I stood outside the park in the spot we’d arranged to meet. I wore my thick wool coat, my red scarf twined around my neck as I blew out puffs of frosty air. Spotting Conor’s head among the crowd as he approached, a smile spread across my face. My chest fluttered at the sight of him.

“Hey,” I breathed when he finally reached me.

“Hi,” he replied, grabbing the lapel of my coat and tugging me to him for a kiss. His lips found mine, gently caressing before he drew back. “I brought you something,” he said and I noticed the small bag he carried. He handed it to me and I spotted theDylanlogo etched across the front.

“You brought me perfume?” I asked, a smile tugging at my lips.

“I thought this one would suit you. And besides, one of the perks of dating me is an endless supply of perfume, so…”

He trailed off, watching as I pulled out the box and read the label. “Synaesthesia,” I said aloud.

“It’s my favourite of all our lines. Most people’s favourite isE.V.but I prefer this one.”

“Well,” I said, my heart thrumming at the kind gesture. “I can’t wait to try it on.”

Conor offered me his arm then and I linked mine through. We walked for a few minutes in companionable silence before he said, “I remembered something from the other night. Something you said to me in the cab home.”

“Oh,” I replied, pulse hammering because I suspected I knew what he was referring to.

Conor’s handsome gaze fell over me, so much love in his eyes I suddenly felt unworthy. “You asked me to promise to never break your heart.”

His penetrating stare made me suddenly self-conscious. “I was just scared,” I explained. “How I feel for you is…I haven’t felt like this for anyone before.”
