“You should probably start moving your things over.”

“Oh. Right.”

“You’ll have your own room. There’s...there’s another room, near the master, that has its own bathroom too. You can have that one.”

“Thanks.”

“Yeah. No problem.”

And she got out of the car, looking down at her hand, marveling at the fact that she was inheriting a large grumpy roommate that she was going to call husband.

Who was apparently an aficionado of rough, edgy sex, but thought the idea of sex with her was hilarious.

Yeah right. Like you want to do anything with him anyway. That would be...hideous and needlessly complicated.

She walked into the house, and was immediately set upon by the Sullivan girls.

“Where the hell have you been?” Fia asked.

“All day,” Quinn said.

“All damn day,” Rory continued.

“I was out,” she said. And she waved her hand so that her sisters noticed the ring.

“OMG!” Quinn said, grabbing her hand. “That’s beautiful.”

“Thank you,” she said. “Gus... Gus got it for me.”

“Wow.” Quinn looked stunned. “Alaina... He’s taking this very seriously.”

Suddenly, she didn’t want to tell her sisters that this was a marriage in name only. Why should anyone know the details of their lives? It wasn’t their business.

“Well...” Her hackles were up now. “We’re getting married. It’s real. We have a real marriage license to prove it. And we’re getting married Saturday. At the lake. I got a wedding dress.” She held up the bag with the dress. Gus had taken all the kitchen supplies back with him.

“Saturday,”Fia repeated, looking shocked.

“Yep. Be sure to invite everybody. And bring a plus-one. I bet Landry would love to come with you.”

“Bite your tongue,” Fia said.

“I will never.”

“Awfully sassy still,” Fia grumbled.

“And I always will be. Because Alaina Sullivan always lands on her feet.”

Rory elbowed her. “I think this time you landed in Angus McCloud’s arms.”

And as she walked up the stairs to go to her room, that kept on echoing in her head. And when she finally slept, she dreamed about those arms. And how strong she knew they were.

CHAPTER FOUR

ITWASTHEnight before his wedding, and all the arrangements had been made. And his jackass brothers had decided to throw him a bachelor party. So there he was, sitting in his mess of a kitchen, with Wolf and Sawyer Garrett, Brody, Hunter, Lachlan and Tag. There was a giant cake in the middle of the table, and a mountain of steaks. Baked potatoes, and rolls, courtesy of Sawyer’s wife, Evelyn.

“Another one bites the dust,” Wolf Garrett said cheerfully, slinging his arm around Gus as if Gus wasn’t liable to punch him for that.

“Not the same,” Gus muttered, moving away from him.
