“Don’t. You just said you’re not all that noble. Stop acting like it.”

“I don’t let myself off the leash. Not here.”

And that was a gross oversimplification of the real reason he couldn’t have her, but better than getting into the truth.

“Shut up,” she said.

She moved over to him, and put her hand flat against his chest, dragged her fingertips slowly down his stomach, down to the waistband of his jeans, and he let his head fall back, almost unable to take the sweetness of her touch even through the fabric of his shirt.

When she pushed at the hem of his shirt, he grabbed the back of it and tugged it over his head, throwing it down on the ground.

His control was shot, and it wasn’t any better for having acknowledged that. Not even a little.

She put her hands on his skin then, and he groaned, reveling in the softness of her touch.

His eyes wanted to close, because it felt so good, but he had to watch. Had to watch Alaina touching him.

“I better lock the door,” she said.

She turned and moved to the cabin door, locking it.

And he knew there was no turning back. Hell, he had no intention of it.

“Take everything off,” he said, grabbing hold of his denim-clad arousal and trying to adjust it so the seam would stop biting into him.

“Oh,” she said.

“Did you think you were going to come in and take control? No. You’re going to get what I give you. You understand, sweetheart?”

She nodded, soundlessly.

“Here’s the thing, Alaina. I’m only good for one thing. When it comes to this. You ready?”

“I...”

“Did you think you were going to come in here, place your hand on my chest and pin me down to that bed and ride me, baby girl?”

She licked her lips, and he couldn’t deny the image of that was pretty damn hot to him too. “Well... I might’ve thought about that.”

“Someday I might let you. But that’s not what’s happening tonight. You need to learn what you’re signing yourself up for. So that you can make a decision. About whether or not you actually want to play this game. I’m not going to pretend to be something I’m not. I’m sure as hell not going to spare you. Mostly because I can’t. I did everything in my power not to fantasize about this. Not to let my thoughts get too graphic. But here we are. And now I’ve got about a thousand fantasies fighting to see which one gets to win. So you take your clothes off for me. Let me see what I’ve been dreaming about.”

He could see that her fingers were trembling, and he knew that he should feel bad. Because she was Alaina. And that wasn’t lost on him, not even in this moment. And when she was a kid, he just thought she was wonderful. But then she grew into a woman, and he’d wanted that woman. But she was still special because of that spirit that he’d seen in her from the beginning. And it mattered that it was her.

And that they were changing things... That mattered too. He’d always protected her. Always.

But tonight he wasn’t doing that. And he supposed he should feel some kind of way about it.

But he couldn’t feel anything other than the heat pouring through his blood now.

He was reduced. To that beast state he’d always been so afraid of. Because he knew what it was like when he lost control of himself. When all he could see was red and fury, and he gave in to the worst parts of what he was.

This was different, though. The beast was hungry. But it wasn’t for blood.

Her bra came off, and he got to see her perfect body again. Round and pale with light pink nipples that seemed to be pouting for his attention.

And he wanted to give them all the attention in the world.

“The rest,” he said, not sure how he kept himself from crossing the room and staking his claim right then and there.
