I blush. I’ve said the words before, felt them inside me for weeks, repeated them in my head over and over again, and whispered them on the boat when I thought he might die. Yet, saying them to his face is different. It feels like everything inside me surges while the world around stays the same.

Jesus, Kat, keep it together.

But I haven’t been together since I met this man.

“You are the most fascinating man I’ve met. I think I knew I’d be in love with you before I even met you, when I studied your file before coming to Zion.” I smile into his chest, then peek at him. Archer is smiling, his gaze never leaving me. “Does it sound strange?”

“Sounds like you, kitten.”

I laugh, hiding my face in his chest again, then raise my eyes at him. “I love when you call me that.”

“I know.” He taps my nose with his forefinger, and my heart warms at the gesture.

“This is awkward,” I whisper, shy at this display of affection.

“I’ll bring the usual Archer back in just a minute.”

“I’m not used to this. You like this. Us.”

“We won’t do it often, I promise.”

We both laugh. We must be the weirdest, fucked up, emotionally repressed people out there.

I smile, rubbing my chin on his chest, keeping my gaze locked with his. “I love you.”

“I love you more, wild thing.” He smiles.

“Nah. I love you more.”

“You know it’s not a competition.”

“It’s not. You are right.” And I can’t help grinning. “But I’d like to point out—”

He shuts me up with a kiss, his hand at the back of my head gently fisting my hair.

I had a valid point, I promise. But Archer knows my weak spots. And he just invaded one of them with his gorgeous mouth.

ARCHER

I’min the hospital for three long days. During that time, Kat doesn’t leave my side.

“I want you to ride my face,” I say to her one night, obviously getting better since I’m horny as hell and mad that I still have to abide by Doc’s rules.

Kat blushes, laughs, then rolls her eyes.

“I’m serious.” I watch her lick her lips and realize we’ve never done that yet. I point my forefinger at my face. “Now.”

She darts to the door to lock it and comes back so fast that I want to laugh.

Some girls are enthusiastic about shopping with their boyfriends, cooking, and watching movies or whatnot. My girl is enthusiastic about my tongue. Can’t blame her. I ace everything. Maybe, besides making pancakes and shooting guns. But then, my girl likes my tongue and kills it at making pancakes and shooting guns. Occasionally, God creates perfect matches. Don’t hate.

On day four, I fight with Doc and leave for Cliff Villa. There’s a day-nurse from Port Mrei there. Alma cooks and glows like a Christmas tree at the sight of me and Kat. Kat and I watch movies and fall asleep cuddling in my bed, ourbed.

Two weeks of sex and sleep and dinners together. One could call it a vacation. But also two weeks of reports about the Ashlands at war with Zion security. The area has been raided several times. Several bunkers with weapons were uncovered. But everyone knows that’s not all of it. How many of those exist?

Port Mrei lies low. Raven and his security team went to meet with Butcher, who denied any involvement—another bad sign since he’s in charge and waits for an opportunity to strike.
