“I can’t read you very well anymore. So we have to talk about things.”

Thingsare feelings, I get it. “I thought I was an open book.”

I can’t hold back a smile when I look from under my eyebrows at Archer as he tongues his cheek.

“Yeah,” he drawls. “There are a lot of pages.”

“I thought you can speed read.”

His arms around me tighten. “There’s your mouth again.”

“I thought it was your favorite part of me.”

“Don’t test my patience. I’ll see you at work, yeah?”

He kisses me, long and deep, stirring me up like we didn’t just go at it twice.

I pull away and pick a thread off his shirt. “You won’t leave if you keep kissing me like this.”

He only laughs through his nose, then takes my jaw between his thumb and middle finger. “I have a feeling the office is gonna be one of my favorite places again,” he murmurs before his lips touch mine in a soft kiss again. He kisses me like he’s trying to figure out if I taste different as a girlfriend than the casual lay I used to be.

Then his hand slides into his pocket, and he reaches behind my neck.

His gold chain—he puts it back on me, like he’s branding me.

“Until I get you something worthy of you,” he says in a voice that sends me to the damn moon.

And then he’s gone.

No holding back.

Archer’s words were full of promise, and as I take a dip in the ocean before going to the office, I already anticipate the workday.

I’m at the Center before him, and when he walks in, I expect him to carry on with his day.

“My office.” He nods toward the door, and I melt in his arms when I get a kiss as soon as I walk in.

“We need rules,” Archer says when my hands go slightly lower on his body than is appropriate, considering anyone can see through his office window.

“Rules?” I murmur.

“We meet every other night,” he says.

I’m startled. “Ohhh-kay? Why?”

“We need to take things slow. Because otherwise, we’ll fly off the handle and do something stupid.”

I can read his body very well. Right now, his rules don’t make sense. Not when his fingers brush against my back in a very obvious way—he wants me again.

My fingers go to the buttons of his jeans, and Archer cocks his brow.

I pause. “I thought you said no holding back.”

His beautiful lips curl in a tiny smile. “I want to take you on a date before we do anything else.”
