Then something stops me dead in my tracks as my mind goes over the chapter.

Jace.

Can’t be…

I open the app again and scroll through the last chapter.

Yes! Fuck, here it is!

“Yes, Jace. It’s all for you. All yours.”

I stare at it in disbelief.

Lu, baby! You got carried away!

I grin at the sight of my name. I wish I could tell her. Her readers will notice.

I do a screenshot and hope there comes a day when I can tease Lu about it.

Her stories unhinge my imagination. I wonder if she’s bare down there or has a little landing strip. A classic bikini, maybe?

Fuck, I shouldn’t be thinking that far ahead, but I can’t help it. I’ve never felt like this. And this novel is unlike anything she’s written before. Emotions drip off the page. Yet there hasn’t been a single spicy scene yet. Maybe, Lu is not into it in real life.

“Do women like smut?” I ask Roey.

He chuckles. I just gave myself away, but I don’t care.

“What, you think our Lu is an exception? Women are not that much different from men, generally speaking. I mean in terms of sexuality.”

“Bullshit. Porn is mostly for men.”

“Wrong.”

“All right. But most girls are not into porn, or crude stuff, or one-night stands.”

“And plenty of guys aren’t either. Have you met yourself?”

Right.

“Generally, women are not as straightforward and open about it as men,” Roey explains.

“Yeah. But—”

“You know what your problem is, Jace?” His voice is sharp again. It’s the drinking, I know. “You are overthinking. Everything. All the time. Especially with girls. Instead of just letting go.”

“Well, maybe I like to think.”

“Well, maybe Lu will like your dick better than your brain.”

That’s classic Roey Torres.

“Maybe I want her to like me first before—”

“Maybe you are asexual,” Roey cuts me off and throws his head back with a heavy exhale. “Maybe you like the idea of sex but are not interested in the real thing. You might just be a dreamer. Embrace it.”

He’s easy to talk to despite his one-sided view on relationships. But he’s wrong. It’s not like I didn’t want women. Just not any specific one.

Until Lu.
