Baron, Wolf, and Crank. The three men wore outlandish visors — night-vision equipment that the club had requisitioned years ago, finally put to good use. The Death Division didn’t have a chance. The Drifters were already in place, and they started to choke out the thugs who’d been holding Esme to ransom.

Rainer reached his Little and grabbed the gag, yanking it out of her mouth. “Darling, it’s okay. Everything’s going to be just fine.” Beams of white light played over the space as the Death division jerked against the strength of the Drifters. There was just enough light for him to find Esme’s lips and press his own against them.

Something pulled him out of the moment, though. A roar of defiance and rage. Dog was off, sprinting for the exit — he knew that he was in serious, serious trouble.

Rainer glanced at Baron, Wolf, and Crank — they were all busy apprehending the other Death Division members. But there was no way that he was going to let Dog get away. Not this time. “Wait here. You’re safe now,” Rainer said to Esme. Then, he got up, and he ran.

Outside, it was almost entirely dark. The stars up above were the only source of light, and it was virtually impossible to see. Rainer felt like a hunter as he traced the sound that Dog made in the darkness. He heard gravel, and then, as he got further away from the warehouse, the sound of branches underfoot.

Fuck, he’d gone into the forest.

As Rainer passed the wooded threshold, he took out his phone and flashed it between the trees. He saw a shadow in the dark, darting away from him. His heart pounded when he thought about what this bastard had put Esme through, and what he’d almost put the club through, too.

“I’m coming for you, traitor!” Rainer shouted out, not caring if he gave away his position.

It was a mistake, though. A terrible one.

As he kept running forward, there was another roar, and he felt the weight of a body slam into him from the side. It was Dog — he’d been waiting in ambush for him. Rainer was down on his back, with something hard — a tree root, maybe — pressing up against him, causing him agony as Dog pushed him down.

He felt punches. One, two, three of them, each harder than the last. There was a sickening crunch as the last connected with his nose. But somehow, miraculously, no pain. That would come later, no doubt.

No, right now, the only thing that Rainer felt was pure, unadulterated adrenaline. He pushed up, and as he somehow fought to get to his feet, Dog yelped, tumbling backward. Now it was Rainer’s turn — he found Dog’s face with his fists, connecting over and over again. Dog cried out in pain, but Rainer couldn’t stop. He wasn’t just punching him because of the hurt he’d caused to Esme — it was so much more than that.

It was because, once again, Rainer had trusted him — trusted that Dog wasn’t a bad guy, just had a different vision for the club. But he’d been deceived. And the more he punched, the more he realized that he wasn’t just hitting Dog — he was punching his brother too.

That’s what stayed his hand.

He looked down and saw his brother’s face looking back up at him — puffy and vulnerable and in unspeakable pain. But still his brother. Still his blood. And he stopped.

“It’s over, Dog,” Rainer said, reaching down and squeezing his enemy’s shoulder. “It’s over.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

TWO WEEKS LATER

Thepasttwoweekshad been a blur. Rainer had almost constantly beenwithpeople. Club members, prospects, Littles, even the goddamn police. It had felt as though he hadn’t even had a moment to himself, let alone much time to spend with the one person he actuallywanted to be with right now: Esme.

Finally, he had a moment to himself.

“I wish I didn’t have to do this.”

His Little girl’s eyes were wide and soft. That electric green took on so many different personae. There were times when she was the sexiest woman in the world — eyes glinting with the promise of pleasure and submission. There were times when she was unbelievably adorable — pools of green sparkling with excitement at the thought of doing something as simple as coloring in or watching cartoons. Then, there were times like now, when the emotion in her emerald-green eyes was supportive and loving, and there was no one in the world who could match her tenderness.

“I know, Daddy. I’m gonna miss you too. But it’s like you said — this is important.”

“Right. And you’ve got plans, anyway. I shouldn’t put this off.”

“I love you, Daddy.”

“YouandOm Baby?”

This prompted Esme to pull Om Baby out of her bag. You wouldn’t be able to tell that, just a couple weeks ago, Om Baby’s head had been ripped clean off her body. Sophia was a professional, after all.

“Om Baby loves you too. But my feelings for you are a little bit different to Om Baby’s.” There was that sexy expression that he loved so much.

Rainer leaned in and kissed Om Baby on the head. Then, he leaned past the stuffie, and kissed Esme on the mouth. She responded instantly to his demands. Their kisses had been intense right from the start, but as they’d started to learn even more about each other’s bodies, it was almost like they were a musical band, playing together in perfect rhythm.

He was the drummer, dictating the pace, demanding that Esme followed his lead. But she was the singer, adding beautiful flourishes to the piece they performed together. She fought to keep up with his tongue, she caressed his body as he gripped hers, she ran hands through his hair as he gripped the fleshy goodness of her ass.
